No definitely not, hard to get a bag, hard to get on the list....it's difficult here too which is why it's so good to build a relationship with a nice SA

Not true. My aunt just bought a Birkin in Singapore for S$13000, which is US$9495, still a lot cheaper than us in Australia.
i went to the bond st hermes last month, on a lark i asked about birkins. the nice SA informed me that you have to be "present" at just the right time to even get on a waitlist 
i'll just stick with my local boutique thanks...except the prices are just too unreal lately!!

Australian prices make it seem worthwhile just going straight to a reseller.
I do think you are right. It does work out a lot cheaper for the same thing essentially.
