4mm looks great, and you could go bigger. With a low piercing, it helps even more if you use a bigger backing so your stud faces up high, without any drooping.
Bigger is better. Also, you can have your ears repierced...the current holes will seal up eventually.
How did your MIL have it done? Did it close up on its own, or did she have it closed professionally? I've had a bad piercing for over 20 years, and I've been contemplating getting my ear repierced, but I share the fear of holes merging. It actually takes less than a year to close up. My 75 y/o MIL had it done and wondered why she waited so long!
Bigger! Definitely bigger.

You can't go wrong with any of those choices, but personally, I usually prefer 4 prong over 3 prong. I haven't seen a 4 prong martini in person (not up close, at least) so I couldn't compare it to a basket setting, but I imagine I'd like it better than a 3 prong martini. Thanks everyone! So, I'm thinking I could go 1 - 1.2 cttw. A little off topic but I'm thinking 4 prong basket vs martinis. 3rd option is 3 prong. Leaning towards the 4 prong martini.. it doesn't seem common for some reason. Thoughts ?
