Do you think that big watches will be in style for awhile? I know that they have been really popular for the past two years, just wondering if the trend will last or if small faced watches are the next trend. I would love your opinions. I just ordered the Michael Kors large chronograph gold one, (saw it on my hairdresser and loved it!) I already have a rose gold one that I wear almost daily. I actually am wearing them more than my cartier tank and Michelle diamond urban.

I think the look depends on the person. Some women would look ridiculous wearing a 40-45mm watch, no matter if it's in style or not. I do think it's better suited for younger women.

I'm 43 and have always worn a mens watch. Even when I was in high school and bracelet thin watches were in. I'm 5'10 and slim, anything too small I think looks like teen jewelry on me. I hate tiny rings, handbags and watches! Check out Elle thread in the Celebrity section for all the pictures of her in a mans watch with tons of bracelets stacked on top of it. She looks amazing.
I just got a Rolex Milgauss like this one, though mine has a white face. It's 40mm, and on my wrist, it fits perfectly! I agree with MissusB--it's a lot easier to see the time with a larger watch, and according to a jeweler I talked to yesterday, these big watches are very popular.

Hi, Big watches are sooo in, and I think it will last a while...I agree with everyone else: it depends on your age but also, you can see better with bigger watches! and I tell you, I am 24 and wear glasses since I was 4 so I kind of need a big watch!

Big watches are definitely IN. However, they will remain acceptable for all people on a go forward basis.
What I mean is this... In the past, big watches were "weird" and "silly" and so on. Now they are "hip" and "chic".
Certainly, small watches will make a comeback at some point, but when they do, it will not make big watches unfashionable or uncool.
Big watches have now found a permanent niche in the watch world, and while it will ebb and flow in terms of popularty, it will not fade away.
Even Rolex is creating 43mm watches, because they have come to realize that there is a constant and stable market for larger watches.
Again, it might not always be so big a segment, but it will be constant.
This is my opinion after 2-3 years of discussing with industry folks, experts, trendsetters, etc.
Rolex is not prone to trends. They would simply not create a watch to meet a trendy demand. This to me, and many others, suggests a regularity.
I expect big watches will be forever in-style now, so long as the individual wearing them is comfortable in them.

^^^^ That is so true,I was in the trade a long time and noticed that big watches were becoming a mainstay,for both guys and girls.Even Patek Phillipe started to make larger cased watches,and like Rolex they don't bow to transient trends.
I think small watches will always be 'in' as some ladies just don't like the look of a gents or large watch on them,the biggest consistent seller ladies bi-metal Rolex with a jubilee bracelet,fluted bezel and champagne diamond set dial,and sold as fast as they could be stocked even with the thing of ladies going for bigger watches.

The 43mm Deep Sea Sea-Dweller is actually that size because it has to be in order to be stable enough for that depth rating. The ring lock system wouldn't fit in the 40mm case.
But the larger Day-Dates and new DateJust II are moving towards the bigger trend as well...
Great post Wired1. The 45mm + watches are here to stay. Personally I hate looking at a watch multiple times at night just to figure out what time it is. My first was a Nixon a few years back and I cant tell you how hard it was to find other designers at the time that would make big enough pieces. I tend to favor the more trendy rather than classic luxury names when it comes to watches. I'm looking for the "oh, Nice watch" and the grab of the wrist, not the subtle hint of being well off. Although Guess is usually on top of the trends it even took them a while to get on track. Labels are now seeing the demand is more consistent then they originally thought and I love it!
I hear ya, MissusB! (I'm 52) I can hardly read the dial of a ladies Rolex MUCH LESS the date! My Midsize even has to be in bright light LOL! I don't care about in style, out of style, it's what I like. Men's watches all the way!
The only exceptions is I have a womens movado with black dial and gold hands, and a Baume and Mercier with black dial and silver hands. I can read them, and since they are small, I wear them on the few dressy occasions I attend, where even a Midsize might be too chunky.
Younger women, don't worry! If you love it, wear it! Insecure admirers will be impressed at your individual stylish confidence! Really!
