Big rock or rockin' bling?

I actually like this idea a lot. it's nice to be able to have variety in what you wear. I like the way it looks when women wear large or fancy diamond bands in lieu of their ER/WB. I usually think of that as a more "casual" look...like an every day look.

have you considered buying a 3/4 diamond band so that you have some flexibility? (sizing, cleaning, no wasted diamonds) I think GnomeNisse suggested that earlier.

I've given some thought to non-eternity bands and finally found one I liked! It's actually a 5 stone ring with .30 stones. Found the reference on Pricescope here. Because there's 5 stones and they don't got around the sides of the finger, I imagine it will prevent the ring from turning, like 3/4 eternity bands tend to do.

All of the sparkley choices!:yahoo:I only wish my diamond funds were endless, lol.

This one is in the running. It actually appeals more to me because it seems like the more sensible choice as opposed to an eternity ring.

My MIL was looking for a 3 carat diamond at one point. I'm not sure why she decided not to get it, I'll have to ask her when I see her next month. We're flying down to watch her go skydiving for her 60th birthday!

My wedding set looks almost identical to the second picture you posted in your original post. I adore my solitare and my eternity band. If you are worried about dinging the stones on the underside of the eternity band, don't. Diamonds are a very hard substance, and although not unbreakable, they wear very well. Just be sure to get it cleaned and get the setting checked every six months or so.

As for what to get, it depends on what you like and what you wear. I adore my large solitare. But, because my eternity band is also substantial (though not as big as what you are contemplating), I wear it on its own often. I do not travel with my solitare and in certain places (ball games, playing sports, the beach) I leave it at home. With a nice size eternity band, you still have "bling", but it is more subtle, user friendly and can be worn in most places.

I love love this 5 stone ring, please correct me if I am wrong is this Whiteflash's 5 stong U Prong ring. I am in engaged now and I have almost 2.5 carat solitaire diamond and I love it. However I do want this five stone ring above as a Wedding band but I am not sure with two wedddings and buying a flat we can afford that as well.

Yes, it's the "SKYE" Five Stone U Prong ring from Whiteflash. I priced it out with Whiteflash's top-of-the-line hearts and arrows .33 diamonds and it came out to almost $5k. DH said our jeweler should be able to make it for less than half of that.

I'm looking to get the eternity band for these reasons:

I'd be afraid to lose the solitaire, whereas if I lose a stone in the band, it wouldn't be so hard to replace.
My wedding band is wide (5-6mm) and I would need a HONKER of a stone for it to look decent. Replacing the band is not an option.
I've never really been a solitaire type of person; I'll save a small solitaire diamond for a pendant someday. :)

I guess that's a matter of perception. I have a very wide wedding band and a small solitaire, and they look just fine together.

I haven't looked at this size in real life, but the width of the band is what attracted me in pictures. When the diamonds are smaller, the band is thinner and I don't think it has that "wow" look. Also, I currently have a 3/4 eternity band with blue sapphires; it turns and that annoys me. I was also like "why pay for something no one's going to see?" until I got that ring, lol.

Actually ive seen bands with a squared off bottom (looks like a "U" and the bottom edges of the U looks like |_|) so that it wont turn! i would feel a ton better hitting the gold band on something with my palm then a diamond. Turn your semi eternity around so the diamonds are on the back for a day and see how that feels. it will give you an idea of how it will be with diamonds all the way around :p

I also love both rings that you are deliberating over.

My thoughts are that if an eternity band is too big it looks awkward and might be uncomfortable to wear. It also starts looking messy to me because it gets too wide on the finger. imo

But I love a 15 point eternity ring...or maybe 20, but any bigger looks like its trying too hard...but still not a big diamond.

My choice would be the 2 plus carat diamond diamond as its such a statement.

If I couldnt afford that I would get a 15 pointer eternity ring which is still a fabulous statement especially in well cut sparkley diamonds!!!!

I had my eternity band to be half and the diamonds aren't small. And I have yet to see anyone with a pink and white diamond eternity band. I also have a bigger solitaire ring. I wear the eternity band more.

an eternity band with .4/.5 stones seems like overkill also i never understood the concept of having diamonds on the back of my finger where nobody can see it plus i be worried about holding onto things like railing or my laptop. i may either chip the diamond or scratch up the laptop.

if you can afford it why not go for a bigger diamond. it doesnt have to be 2.5ct it can be 2ct. i think once you get up to the 8mm mark the extra .5 really doesnt make a difference.

I saw someone on Pricescope with a diamond and pink sapphire wedding set. I thought it was very pretty, even if it wasn't for me.

Found here.
