Wow....thank you SO MUCH, josie, for starting this thread. I was literally just looking at folica.com 2 min. ago to get a flat iron myself, and was amazed at their prices in comparison to everyone else's -- and now we know just how/why they are able to offer those prices and still stay in business! I will not be purchasing from them after all.

Your careful documentation is much appreciated!

Not a problem :) I just want to inform many people so that they don't run into the same problem.

I'm surprised that there's only one other thread about folica on the forum. I was expecting many more complaints.

lauren8792, I'm glad you got your replacement. And I agree, they are a NIGHTMARE.

Ugh, what a nightmare! Good job in getting things worked out for yourself though. I got my GHD from Sephora and it's perfect, so I'll make sure to send people there and steer them away from folica in the future.

I have never had a problem with folica. But I will say this. I used to own a salon. Folica sells their products for what I used to pay wholesale. I always wondered how they were able to do this and still make a profit. Maybe its because they sell fakes

I just purchased a Sedu blow drier from Folica and received it today. It seems nice, not cheap like the flat iron. Do you guys think I should return it? Are they making fake blow driers also?

I'm not sure about Sedu blow drier :shrugs:. If you have any doubts about the hair drier you should contact Sedu.

I looked into contacting Sedu and there is no phone # on the any of the info that came with the blow drier. When I looked on the Sedu website the only # I found was a number if you were a salon and wanted to carry their products.
Maybe I should just return it, if I don't, I'll always wonder if it's a fake.......

Thanks for posting this! I bought the exact same one a few months back but haven't had any problems with it. I got the black DVD so I think mine is real? :confused1:

I had NO idea Folica would be like that. I just bought a hair dryer from them a couple months ago and haven't had problems with it.

^ eBay is notorious for selling fakes... as in 100% fake, not 2nd quality items

well, funny thing is, i was emailing the person i purchased the item from because i had not received it. i filed a claim with PP. its only been 1 and 1/2 weeks. then the seller responded, sad he mailed it to Canada.. *doh* but could never provide me with a tracking #.

i love in Ontario, but not the Canada one. i live in the US one and it states that on my address. i offered my work address.

but the seller decided to refund my $$. because he could not answer my questions about it being a authentic item.

yesterday i used up my sephora GC's and got the last pink one. :yahoo:

at least i got my $$ back from the seller. even though i paid FP for mine i know its the real deal!!

I purchased a pink GHD flat iron limited edition with the bag from ebay without reseraching all the scams out there on these flat irons. I did not realize there are fake flat irons. I won an auction Monday on ebay by what seemed to be a real authentic GHD iron, the seller had 50 feedback with 100% positive reviews. The GHD iron came in yesterday and I had the real iron to compare it to from Sephora.. the identical model because after I purchased and paid for the iron, I found the postin on ebay for 22 ways to spot a fake GHD. I picked up the real thing from Sephora to see if they are identical... The GHD from ebay came in yesterday and I spotted it as a fake RIGHT AWAY!!!! I am so happy I had the real GHD to compare it too.

These are the differences:
1. The cord was pink on the fake, not black as pictured in the auction or on the real GHD
2. NO safety button like the real one has
3. The packaging was black inside the box, not pink like the real deal
4. The iron had black scuff marks all over it, not perfect like the real GHD
5. The DVD was pink and all scratched up, didn't sit as firm into the box as the real GHD's BLACK DVD.
6. The manual was super thick, didnt open the bag to look for misspellings and the real GHD had a thinner manual
7. The shade of pink on the box was lighter than the real one
8. There was a round slit on the outside of the box whereas the real GHD box did not have that... and the packaging writing was completely different than the real one.
9. The bag/mat it came with were all worn in and completely cheap made, smaller in size and different shades (lighter pink and black instead of pink and greyish color), also no stars on the buttons like there should be.
10. The inside of the box where the flat iron sat in was all torn apart and wrecked, this was definitely not a brand new item as described and definitely not a real GHD.

I contacted the seller immediately and waited a few hours, no response... So I set up a dispute on paypal hoping not to lose my money. Fortunately the seller responded later and said she would refund me all my money ($105) plus return shipping. She said that she purchased these irons from someone else and was told they were real. She has excellent communication with me which is a huge plus. I'm so happy I'm getting a refund. I am definitely keeping the GHD flat iron from Sephora. I just wish I didn't have to deal with all this headache.

I really appreciate everyone's posts mentioning all GHD's on ebay are fake, that really made me realize this iron needed to be inspected. Seems as real as these auction listings are on ebay, they still send fake items and hope you don't catch on to the irons being fake.

I also read somewhere that Amazon.com sells fake GHD's, so buyers beware.

I just wanted to say thanks too! I know this thread has been quiet for awhile but I was looking online for a new hair straightener and was tempted to buy it either from folica.com or e-bay- until I found this thread. I'm always hesitant with e-bay but I didn't think folica was such an issue! Very good to know!

Does anyone know if the pink irons are still available anywhere? They are gone on sephora.com, I'm going to check out my local sephora but I'm guessing they aren't going to have. If not, is the extra $ for the "pure" one worth it? Or does it make sense to stick with the basic one?
