No, I don't feel uncomfortable hearing it or using the term. It's just a term. I think that it was just an easy way for the OP to let everyone know exactly what type of tank tops she was referring to without having to describe them. Since there are lots of different style of tank tops, you can't really just say "Best Tank Tops?"

I was not saying my comment directly to the OP. I just meant that in general people use this term a lot and I find it offensive. In college, I used to volunteer for a domestic violence organization and I saw too much so maybe that's why I may sound a little over the top. I guess when a person has been exposed to the reality of domestic violence even a term like "wife beater" is offensive.

This thread aside, no, I don't feel uncomfortable hearing or using the term. Again, it's just a term for a specific kind of tank top. I used to volunteer for a crisis center during and after college and I used to work for a family crisis counseling organization and I still don't feel uncomfortable with the term when referring to a tank top. Not that I go around using the term a lot, but I still know exactly what style of tank top people are referring to when using the term.

I'm sorry but I don't quite understand why people use the term "wife beater" for a tank top when it has such a horrific meaning. I know it's slang but I don't think it should be used. I am not a victim of domestic violence or anything but I find this term very offensive and I really don't like it at all. In case you guys didn't know this term originated from the show Cops and apparently almost every man that they arrested for domestic violence was wearing one of these.

Does anyone else feel uncomfortable using or hearing this term?

yes, i know people who use it don't mean any harm but i hate it!

I don't flinch when people call tanks "wife-beaters" because growing up that's what they were always called....but I understand how someone can find it inappropriate.

I've always referred to them as "beaters" anyway because it's shorter. :smile1:

Back to the OP's question: the ones I like the best are Mossimo brand from Target. They're super soft and they're cut just right at the neck...not too high and not too low.

james perse definitely, they are pricey but worth it.. I hate the one that is 100% cotton because it stretches out and looks sloppy but the wife beater made from rayon and lycra is amazing!!!!
