Ladies,
Without beating around the bush... I'm a guy, and I love purses. Love them, I would love to carry one, but that's just not in the cards. No I don't like "man bags."

Anyways... When out in public, say at Target, and I see a lady with a beautiful bag on her arm, what is the best way to offer a sincere compliment? I'm trying to avoid sounding like I'm hitting on her (I'm not, I'm happily married). I don't want her to think I'm a creeper. Just want to offer a compliment to her bag, and hopefully brighten someone's day.

Thank you!!

Hmm, tbh that's a bit tricky. It really depends on the individual's interpretation of your comment.
And because everyone is different, it is hard to say.

If you really want to comment, maybe make it short and casual? (ie. Cool bag! or Nice bag!) Nothing too in detail because that may come across as weird (not necessarily to me, but maybe to someone else).

Btw, carry whatever bag you want. My friend is a guy and he carries a beautiful birkin!

The few times I've done this, I mentioned the model name / colour as it comes across as just a fellow bag enthusiast giving a thumbs up. The downside of this is most people aren't into bags like us so they may just scratch their head. You might say something along the lines of "I love your bolide in rouge piment" but be prepared for them to possibly roll their eyes and say "It's an Hermes not a bolide". :giggle:

I struggle with this too, even as a female. I'm worried I'd come across as gawkerish. Sometimes I still get caught staring if I am trying to place the exact model of a less common bag.

Well I hope you buy your wife lots of fabulous bags! ;)

lol.
I'm a woman, and I will say as I walk by, "Love your bag" or "That's a beautiful bag". I always get an appreciative smile and/or thank you. And I think most of us enjoy an occasional recognition of our fashion sense.

The "perils of being a TPF'r in the wild".

lol.
This hit close to home! I don't get out much these days, but at Costco I saw some enviable purses. I miss NYC in the fact that you could achieve whiplash staring at all the different gorgeous bags passing by, and still blend in the background for people not to notice.

I, point blank, stared at a lady in checkout with the most gorgeous LV Amarante Vernis speedy. Then a Chloe Faye passed by and I had to act like I was checking out running pants in the apparel section. Total Creeper lol
