Do you have any preference for what kind of cloth you use to apply creams and for buffing? or a plain old rag would do?

Re Zeli... but if you wait for the cream or lotion to dry it shouldn’t be a problem?

Thanks so much! Are you in the States?

Oh wow, you’re really brave!!! Glad that i gave you a little nudge to finish the project!!
No pref for a cloth. Tbh I usually end up using a paper towel to apply then either an old soft washcloth or microfiber towel to buff.

And no with topcoat I'd say it doesn't matter if cream is dry or not, it might pull up some color. Note I don't mean it'd *remove* the color, more that if your applying topcoat with some kind of applicator (ie not an airbrush) you *might* see some of the underlying leather color you're going over on the applicator. Id actually say that - depending on the leather - this could also happen if you were to apply top coat to bags that you haven't even done anything else to. Just the nature of how the dyes sit in and what topcoat does.

Really my main warning on applying topcoat over cream is that 1) it's usually not necessary bc the creams go a long way towards restoring a light shine. The wax in them that you're buffing to a soft sheen creates that protective coat. 2) not as much with black but certainly with other colors, especially light ones - I'd be hesitant to apply topcoat over large areas of the bag I unless I was fairly certain the leather wouldn't absorb the topcoat thereby basically staining in those worn areas you were trying to seal up. I've done that, and it's not fun :)

I am indeed in the states! Based in NY.

I paint on leather often and always use Angelus Brand paint. It's meant for shoes and leather so it can bend/fold without cracking the way that normal acrylic paint would. Huge selection if you need to mix colors. I use it on bags, jackets, restoring pieces, you name it. I also prep it with their deglazer so the paint sticks. I've tried other paints but this is my fav. Would recommend! It can withstand loads of wear as well. The painting on my profile photo was done years ago and looks the same as the day I painted it.
That's awesome. Doing an actual *painting* on a bag is something I've wanted to do for a while. Have a few totes in mind but no ideas for what to paint that I like for more than a week! For a while I thought a hand turkey would be brilliant but walked myself back on that... For now.

I think I remember reading that Candice Bergen uses Angelus for her "Bergen Bags". Angelus really does have great colors and the paint is high quality. I've also strassed a couple shoes and used Angelus paints + their glitterlites as a base w solid results.

I have a Black bag which I would like to touch up a bit. HA - one would think that I've done this before, and I have .. but I cannot for the life of me remember what leather "touch-up" option I used and as this is Chevre (the other is Calfskin), I would like to make sure that I use something that will not only work, but not destroy those precious leathers!!

THANKS ALL!!!
Handbag Clinic uk black balm but it is not for sale on their web anymore. At least I’ve been been able to find it..
It worked really amazing. No color transfer and your bag it’s jet black like first day.
