HI fellow purse forumers! I need to buy a graduation gift for my daughter's boyfriend. I wasn't thinking of anything so elaborate but his mom got a really nice gift for my daughter (spa day for both of them with massages, facials, mineral pools, lunch, at a high end resort). I know it doesn't have to be tit for tat but I'm sure it cost well over $1k for both of them and they have been very kind and generous to my daughter - just took her on their vacation to a resort in the keys, invite her to their house for dinner at least 1-2 times a week, etc.

My original thought was a LV wallet bc his mom (who is very low key and not into designer stuff at all) made this comment to me recently: "R suddenly wants a Louis Vuitton duffle bag and i blame you" Lol
Clearly, I'm not purchasing a $2-4k duffle bag but thought a wallet could be good.

Then my daughter mentioned that he wanted an Oura ring (apparently they looked at them while in Best Buy) and told me to order that for him in the matte black, which i did. He's into fitness and works out so I guess this could be useful but also wonder if people really use longterm one the novelty wears off. I've also read that the Stealth color can scratch.

Then she texted me while they were in way home from the keys informing me that se saw him looking at LV wallets online from his phone and also thinks his current wallet is falling apart.

She also mentioned that they were looking at Ray-Ban meta AI sunglasses and that they were really cool. Apparently they can take pictures and short videos, play music, and answer questions like an Alexa or Google would. I just ordered a pair for my daughter and thought would be cute to add card that says, " you're future's so bright, you gotta wear shades" before she leaves for college in a couple of weeks (plus I keep trying to encourage her to wear sunglasses to no avail).

Overall, I feel the wallet may last the longest and seem more meaningful/timeless (especially if can personalize and have initials hot stamped) than something trendy but of course its also the most expensive option and not sure it would seem "appropriate " (though he's probably going to buy himself one anyway). I'm attaching photos of the one we liked along with a Burberry one i just found online that we really like as well. I think my daughter likes the Burberry one best but I suspect he may not even be familiar with the brand so may not seem as exciting to him as the LV.

Sorry this is so long, please share your thoughts.

I think he would like the sunglasses because they’re so innovative. Plus, he can match your daughter and they’d look cute together. The ring he could probably buy for himself if he really wanted it. And my experience with LV is, the recipient ought to choose what they like instead of being gifted sight unseen.

The sunglasses are probably something he’d not buy for himself so I think it’s a great gift.

I think books is the right answer because of my interest in encouraging young people to love books. Alas.

So anyway: the LV wallet.

Think that all 4 choices are good. If "he" likes LV agree that the Burberry may not be as appealing as the
LV because he has familiarity with LV.
The Ray- Ban glasses are cool & that likely would get my vote next to the OURA ring, JMO
I'm sure you'll make the right decision with perhaps some more thinking

I'm not sure they'd have much chance to coordinate bc they're going to different universities and the glasses I ordered my daughter are different style/color but could be fun for them to use when they visit each other. Thank you! I bought the glasses "just in case" but can return. Within 30 days. But i also bought the Oura ring lol

i appreciate this suggestion and both of my children love reading. This young man is about to start college for an engineering degree, so i think there will be plenty of reading (for school) in his future. I was hoping for something a bit more "grand" but i do like the idea for future gifts. I actually have a cherished old copy of Alice in Wonderland that has a handwritten note from my Aunt to my Mother when she graduated college, which I have now passed down to my daughter.

My grandson recently showed me how well his LV pocket organizer in graphite damier canvas that I gifted him with has held up. He uses it as a wallet, and says it’s one of the best gifts he’s received.
This is great to know! My older daughter "voted" for the LV wallet and I think my younger daughter is leaning towards it as well. We had plans to go to the Louis Vuitton store today but didn't make it there before they closed so we are planning to go when they open tomorrow. We went the other day to look at men's wallets and narrow down what we liked and what's nice is they have the hot stamp machine in store.

Thank you! I love all the gifts for him and he's such a sweet kid, I'd love to give him all. I think I will run by his mom tomorrow and get her input (and make sure she won't be mad if I do buy him the wallet). I do think the glasses are cool and am sure he would like and use but also feel that way about the ring and the wallet lol

Not the ring or the glasses, they're too personal. The wallets are nice but a but much IMO. Maybe an LV card holder would be more appropriate.

I think ti was nice of his mum to pay for an experience for both of them. How about your daughter and he go out to celebrate somewhere they like and you pick up the tab.

Thanks for your input. Personally, i prefer card holders but my daughter said he carries alot of stuff in his wallet so I don't think a card holder would suffice.

Can you explain what you mean by the ring or glasses being "too personal"?

I voted the LV wallet which is what I gifted recently to a 17 (now 18) year old. I also had it stamped with his initials. I admit when I did it, I was worried it was too much.

Lovely for you to run your ideas by his mum. You've obviously a very thoughtful person. It's fun to give! 😊
Thank you for such kind words. I enjoy buying gifts for people as well. Apparently, it's my "love language"

My mother bought my DH a wallet when he was my BF (duty-free). She was going to get him a lizard or fine black calfskin Gucci, I steered her to a brown, bridle-hide and totally indestructible Ettinger. Nowadays, DH doesn't use a wallet anymore, he just has his phone and a phone case slot for an extra couple of card (personally I think its a really silly idea having everything all in one place).

I think they are both things more like a GF gives her beau.

Gift is essentially from my daughter (and me), I'm just stuck playing for everything lol

In that case - makes perfect sense.

I still like the wallets though, it so 'grown-up' and says 'we respect you' and 'financial responsibility assumed'. I think it will impress in a good way (him/and one he has it, others too). I prefer the look of the Burberry 100%, but it depends on his personal style and his style refs. And every man should at least one good tie for interviews and occasions.
