Hi Ladies! I fondled some Prada deerskin today (for the first time) and it was just luscious! My question is how does it compare to BE's cervo lux? Is it identical or just similar? I know that the leathers are both supplied from the same place. But I thought that someone had posted the BE cervo is cow and not deer. If that's the case, they can't be the same right?

I was just wondering!

Thanks :)

BE's is heavier then the prada. It is not quite as soft but is also not as easily damaged. My BE cervo lux bag is new, and not broken in, but in its current state is not as pliable as the prada leather. BE's is still gorgeous, but not the same IMO. I only owned a prada deerskin bag for a short period of time though. So somebody else might know better!

Yes Suzzee....that was what the leather was originally called. My choc glossy Hug Me leather was referred to as "chocolate cervo lux" during the bespoke.

Thanks - I swear I'm getting so confused with all the new leathers and I was sick all last week and between the nasty sinus thing and the drugs I've been fog brain for days;)

Doesn't the Cervo Lux in BE have a slight sheen? I own 2 Pradas in Cervo Lux and they are slightly metallic almost. I also have owned several Prada Cervo Antiks which are the Deerskin bags. From pictures I have seen the BE Cervo Lux is not quite the same. Prada leather is thick thick and very soft. IMHO nothing compares to Prada Deerskin bags but I was always under the assumption that BE's Cervo Lux is more like Prada's Cervo Lux without the extra bling. Here are a few pics of my Pradas in Cervo Lux.

Cervo is a port in Italy, but I don't know if that has any relevance or not? But from what I can glean, it can be any kind of hide (deerskin, cowhide) and can be soft grained. Smythson have some bags on their website that are described as Cervo, but they look smooth and I'm not clear what they're made from - so I'm still not sure what it means!

I agree, Prada cervo deerskin is very soft. Quite nice. I don't own a BE cervo but I'm sure that is very nice too. I love your bags Lexie, you've got good taste!

Thanks for the input everyone. Interesting answers. Back when I first saw the word "cervo" on this forum, it was in reference to the choco glossy pebbled leather. Advertised as "cervo lux from Italy". I didn't know what that meant so I googled it and came up with two things: 1. Prada 2. by definition in Italian - deer. After reading a little about Prada's cervo (b/c there was by far more info on that than anything else out there), I assumed that cervo meant deerskin - in terms of handbags. I also asked Rose and she simply told me that it was the glossy pebbled leather (not saying cow or deer).

But then I saw posted that it was cow and not deer. I didn't really care one way or another, but now that I've touched Prada, I was just curious about how BE compared.

Cilifene had a Prada cervo bag and was sent a BE pebbled sample for comparison. Maybe she could chime in?
She told me the Prada was delicate, thin and a bit prone to scratching... whereas the BE sample was thicker since it was cowhide and not deerskin...

It's all very complicated. I've had 3 different Prada Cervo Antiks in Hobos and they were all very thick and not at all prone to scratching. I'll say that the Cacao color had corner wear very quickly but that happens to BE's too. The Naturale Hobo wears like Iron and didn't wear since it was not a glossy bag. It's the price we pay for not being able to see, feel and try on bags before we buy them.

Hi Ladies -

I have a Prada Vit Daino tote and a sample of BE's pebbled leather. I agree with Lexie's characterization. I've been carrying my Prada for almost a month straight and this thing wears like iron. There is no sign of wear what so ever on this bag and it smells divine. BTW - If anyone is interested in obtaining my BE sample, PM me. I'll be ready to pass it on in a little while. But if you want me to compare BE pebbled leather to her glossy leathers, there is no comparison in terms of softness. The pebbled leather wins hands down.

Now, while the BE sample is soft, my bag feels softer but I don't know if comparing a small sample to a bag is a fair comparison. The sample may have been handled by others before I received it. Also comparing deer skin to cow skin is probably like comparing apples to oranges but I'm no expert - I just like what I like.

I purchased the bag deeply discounted at Neiman's on-line but I could have sworn the description stated that the bag was cow skin. The care guide states that, "...meticulously crafted in carefully selected leather, that has abeen processed employing a special technique to give it softness and the characteristic of buckskin."
I guess its deerskin.

Lexie - I know I'm in the wrong forum to state this but your bags are gorgy! I think that those bags are some of the most beautiful that I've seen. I love the range of color on the bags.
