Battle of the casual crossbody bags: Evelyne vs Jypsiere vs Berline

I agree with what has been said about the Evelyne (pm)
It has a classic simplicity and I doubt you would regret having one
as illustrated by the wide support displayed here
I was concerned about security and have a zipped insert
With the H worn inwards it does not shout Hermes
The sellier is/was a great variant and I wish I had bought one when it was launched
It is widely available pre-loved and you might get lucky with barenia

I like the look/style of the Jypsiere ( a great idea ) but the way the it is big at the bottom and narrow at the top rules it out for me.

PT's description of the Berline as cute is spot on; it's the vertical quilting and the perforation
that decorate it and strip away what could have been long-lasting classic simplicity
It could have been what the Jypsiere isn't

You should investigate the Halzan suggestion.

I own a Jypsiere 31 In Fjord leather which is known to be one of the heavier leathers but I dont find it too heavy (I think the X-body style distributes the weight somehow).
Initially getting in and out of it annoyed me (But not like the 24-24 which is a bag I was considering but after trying in the boutique decided the fiddly closure was a dealbreaker for me) but now I've found ways round it if I need to get in and out quickly I fasten the Sangles under the flap OR I place the Sangles as they should be threaded through but dont fasten them onto the touret.
Its a great bag! I dislike the Berline, The body reminds me of a leather cigar case and I just find the design a bit lacking somehow.
I know the Evelyne would be a fantastic daily bag for me but I only like the Sellier version which lacks the outside pocket.
Have you considered a Halzan 31?
Thats on my radar as a future purchase everyday bag it appears very practical and rather lightweight.
Thank you:) that’s an incredible way to wear the jypsiere. Thanks for that info I think the jypsiere’s con of difficult access can be crossed off now

Here’s pics of my Jypsiere View attachment 5879519
You wear it very well! So chic!

I have an Evelyne and a Jypsière.

I‘m completely the opposite to @maxroxxherhandbags  I never use the J because it’s heavy, the shape sits weirdly against my body (and the tapered top limits capacity) and the flap is just completely impractical. I personally find it’s a bore to keep fastened (and it’s in the way when you want to get into the bag because it’s Just. So. Big) and if you tuck it into the bag it completely restricts access to the inner pocket. I think I read somewhere that the J was created to provide a more casual offering to B and K that nonetheless borrowed from their design codes (other will know better than I do though), but I feel like the J was an early-ish example of H starting to use the turnlock as a design feature on things that might have been better designed without it.

I don’t mind the E but tend not to use it terribly often. It’s definitely a nice slouchy choice for casual wear, but I dislike the open top.

I second @maxroxxherhandbags’ suggestion that you might also consider the Halzan. I have it in the 25 which might be smaller than you want but it really is a terrific bag for day.
Thank you for sharing your opinion:) the tapered shape of the jypsiere is something I need to think about.

As for the Halzan, I don’t think it’s for me aesthetically so thank goodness or else deciding will make it even more difficult haha

Just a few more pics - this time the Evelyne tpm. I use these almost every day for dog walking when I don’t need to carry as much. They fit a surprising amount for their tiny size, small but mighty :P I know you are looking at bigger ones, but jic you decide another casual bag is in order at some point. They are so soft and lightweight and just fun to carry. The TPM’s carry my LV men’s pocket organizer wallet (the H mini bearn fits too), my AirPods Pro, My IPhone promax 15 (it fits completely inside), keys, a small tub of Lip Medex and a lippie. I can also put sunglasses in them too in a pinch (in a pouch not a case).

Hope you are getting the data you need! Can’t wait to see what you decide.
Stunning and I love your furry friend right there!

If you like to have your hands free and be able to just reach into your bag, the Evelyne is hard to beat. Definitely let us know what you end up with!! I'm sure the won't be your last H bag, so you cannot go wrong! Good luck!! :flowers:
Thank you so much! I’ll keep all of you posted:)

I tried the Evelyne many times in all sizes except TGM but it didn't work for me - I don't like how it sort of collapses - so if you are a person that likes their bags somewhat structured, the Evelyne is not ideal.
I have the Saut 25 and I carry that whenever I need a smaller casual crossbody bag (i.e. with kids, not for work). I love it. I have also a Halzan 25 but I am not using that as much as the Saut. If you want to take a lot of stuff, neither of these are your best option, though.

can't say anything about the other two, other than that at regular intervals, the Jypsiere intrigues me (read: when I see a great preloved deal, lol).

Hi all, I would just like to thank everyone for sharing their photos and opinions pertaining to my question:) obviously, Evelyne was the winner of this battle but timing and fate played a huge factor when I refreshed browsing my computer page and saw one of the choices above in all the specs I wanted plus amazing condition show up on fashionphile. I went with my heart and bought it immediately. This doesn’t mean I’m discounting the Evelyne as I’m convinced by almost all of you. Maybe in a year or two, I’ll switch out my everyday bag and get an Evelyne. But for now here’s my new everyday bag. It just arrived this morning and I was so excited I used it already for lunch out.

Congratulations @hermessaddlestitch! It’s a wonderful bag. It sounded like a case of when you know you know! Regardless of what any of us here love and find perfect for use, or how it looks, we all know that all that really matters at the end of the day is how you love it! You did your homework :P And it must be absolutely perfect for you as it’s gone out to lunch with you already! Congrats, looks great on you. And thanks for letting us share in your process, it was great fun. Happy Friday!

PS sorry for italiciced text, it won’t let me change it to regular text.

Beautiful!
My next Jypsiere will be black for sure.
Seeing yours makes me want one even more.

Hi all:smile: I have come to a point in my life where I want to have a crossbody bag that will last me a lifetime. I live in a very casual and modest city so I tend to wear my only Hermes bags, a kelly and a birkin, during trips and special days only. I would love to have an Hermes bag I can wear everyday, so I’m torn between the three on the title.

For those who have either or all, or simply passionate about these bags, I’d like your opinion please. As for sizes, I’m thinking Evelyne 29, Jypsiere 31, and Berline 28. Since I don’t live close to a Hermes store, I’ll be buying mine preloved through fashionphile or rebag. Moderators, I looked for a thread for this but I couldn’t find any. In case it needs to be moved/merged I apologize and please do so:smile:

Here are my pros and cons on my debate:

Evelyne
Pros: classic, lightweight, easy access
Cons: unlined, big logo (shouts Hermes)

Jypsiere
Pros: someone has said here it’s the Birkin of a crossbody(which I agree on), looks very Hermes, has flap for protection
Cons: heavy, difficult to access contents

Berline
Pros: it’s like a crossbody kelly, easier access (compared to Jypsiere), has a flap for protections
Cons: swift leather (prone to rubbing), discontinued (design might not stand the test of time as the jypsiere and evelyne’s classicness)

If you’re ever so kind to share your photos of these bags with or without your outfits, I’d appreciate it too:smile:

Thank you!
You didn't mention the Halzan mini. I have two and they are my work horse bags. They hold a lot for a small bag, can be worn crossbody as well as in hand, under the shoulder etc. Because you don't have to buckle (and I never do) easy to access.

Evelyne's (I use my TPM daily but like my PM when I need more space) are super day to day easy because they are open, but when I need a bit more security or to be slightly less extreme casual - I'm a huge fan of my Berline 28 because it's very easy to use (with strap rings are on the back versus on the top like the Kelly) and it's super cute and modern in a bold color with a touch of old school made modern with the sangles.

Bonus: It's also quite lightweight and has good inside pockets. Also a nice long strap for true cross body wear.

Minus: They aren't being produced anymore.
