Battle of the casual crossbody bags: Evelyne vs Jypsiere vs Berline

Hi all:) I have come to a point in my life where I want to have a crossbody bag that will last me a lifetime. I live in a very casual and modest city so I tend to wear my only Hermes bags, a kelly and a birkin, during trips and special days only. I would love to have an Hermes bag I can wear everyday, so I’m torn between the three on the title.

For those who have either or all, or simply passionate about these bags, I’d like your opinion please. As for sizes, I’m thinking Evelyne 29, Jypsiere 31, and Berline 28. Since I don’t live close to a Hermes store, I’ll be buying mine preloved through fashionphile or rebag. Moderators, I looked for a thread for this but I couldn’t find any. In case it needs to be moved/merged I apologize and please do so:)

Here are my pros and cons on my debate:

Evelyne
Pros: classic, lightweight, easy access
Cons: unlined, big logo (shouts Hermes)

Jypsiere
Pros: someone has said here it’s the Birkin of a crossbody(which I agree on), looks very Hermes, has flap for protection
Cons: heavy, difficult to access contents

Berline
Pros: it’s like a crossbody kelly, easier access (compared to Jypsiere), has a flap for protections
Cons: swift leather (prone to rubbing), discontinued (design might not stand the test of time as the jypsiere and evelyne’s classicness)

If you’re ever so kind to share your photos of these bags with or without your outfits, I’d appreciate it too:)

Thank you!

I have the Evelyne, tried the other 2. I wear the Evie almost every day. The Jypsiere was too heavy, the Berline is cute. Not sure what you mean by Swift is a con, Swift is a hardwearing fantastic leather IME.

Countering the cons of the Evie , I wear the H inside and I use a pouch inside.

How fun to find an everyday bag for yourself that makes you comfortable and is easy to carry. My city also is fairly casual, and I don’t see much H, although some, and I carry all my bags including a kelly and B’s with no trouble. I haven’t had anyone approach me to ask about them :P

My vote, like @papertiger, is for the Evelyne 29 hands down. I have one, I put in a 1.2 mm felt insert (asked Zoomoni to remove interior pockets as I wanted very lightweight protection for the raw leather), and I wear it with the H inside or out depending on whether I want the external pocket against my body for a bit more security. I tried the Jypsiere, but found it heavy and I don’t care for large flaps that have to be moved out of the way to access my things. I rehomed a Chanel boy for that reason.

Though haven’t tried a Berline, it appears to be a nice size and if you like the look I wouldn’t worry about swift either. I prefer the evie still. I also added two mini evies as I liked my 29 so much. Those little confections are perfect for dog walking or running a quick errand - and Zoomoni customized a 1.2 mm felt insert with no pockets for those as well. Couldn’t be happier!

HTH - here are a few pics of mine in Bleu Frida clemence. Don’t have any modeling pics.

Another shout out for the Evie. I've got inserts from 7RP for the 29 and the TPM (Mini Evie) and love those inserts because the pockets are positioned high enough to offer two levels to fill on these fairly narrow Evies. The bag was designed to be worn with the H against one's body, but certainly works either way.

Evelyne in a soft leather with H worn in and an insert. With the soft leather, the evelyne molds nicely to the body. For inserts the 7RP are nice but pricey and you can find good ones from Mai Tai and other sources. The strap is fabric but you can buy an alternative or replacement strap.

Jypsiere is lovely but it’s more expensive generally though may not be true in the resale market. The top of the bag is more narrow than the bottom so capacity is less than an Evelyne.

IMHO Evelyne is a cliche. Jypsiere is IT bag!

Thank you for your response:) happy to hear your thoughts on this. Also great solution to my cons for the evelyne.

I’m glad you have a fantastic experience with swift. My first ever Birkin was actually a swift in 35 bleu Jean but traded it for my current noir togo because it showed too much wear within a couple years of gentle use. The corners rubbed and back scuffed easily. But it took color so beautifully, I just feel like I can’t use it for everyday wear:)

Thank you for your insights:) your evelyne is gorgeous!

You had me at quick errand and dog walking since it’s what my days usually look like!

Thank you:) the H considered the back was actually what had me so interested with the evelyne. I love things that aren’t what most expect them to be.

Since I’m buying preloved, the price of jypsiere on the resale market is one of the factors tempting me considering I learned how much it was retailing for:) thanks for your suggestion and I love a bag that would sit nicely on my body.

I have 2 Evelynes (PM size) that I reach for regularly as they are just so easy to carry. They are the best workhorse bags! Lightweight, casual, yet still chic and luxurious to the touch. I absolutely love them! You cannot go wrong with any of those choices though.
A workhorse bag is what I’m really in search for and you having two of the same size regularly is convincing me a lot:) thanks!

It’s the design, the hardware and the Hermes lines that make it for me. If you don’t mind sharing, does the weight and getting in and out of bother you for daily use?:) thanks!

I own a Jypsiere 31 In Fjord leather which is known to be one of the heavier leathers but I dont find it too heavy (I think the X-body style distributes the weight somehow).
Initially getting in and out of it annoyed me (But not like the 24-24 which is a bag I was considering but after trying in the boutique decided the fiddly closure was a dealbreaker for me) but now I've found ways round it if I need to get in and out quickly I fasten the Sangles under the flap OR I place the Sangles as they should be threaded through but dont fasten them onto the touret.
Its a great bag! I dislike the Berline, The body reminds me of a leather cigar case and I just find the design a bit lacking somehow.
I know the Evelyne would be a fantastic daily bag for me but I only like the Sellier version which lacks the outside pocket.
Have you considered a Halzan 31?
Thats on my radar as a future purchase everyday bag it appears very practical and rather lightweight.

I have an Evelyne and a Jypsière.

I‘m completely the opposite to @maxroxxherhandbags  I never use the J because it’s heavy, the shape sits weirdly against my body (and the tapered top limits capacity) and the flap is just completely impractical. I personally find it’s a bore to keep fastened (and it’s in the way when you want to get into the bag because it’s Just. So. Big) and if you tuck it into the bag it completely restricts access to the inner pocket. I think I read somewhere that the J was created to provide a more casual offering to B and K that nonetheless borrowed from their design codes (other will know better than I do though), but I feel like the J was an early-ish example of H starting to use the turnlock as a design feature on things that might have been better designed without it.

I don’t mind the E but tend not to use it terribly often. It’s definitely a nice slouchy choice for casual wear, but I dislike the open top.

I second @maxroxxherhandbags’ suggestion that you might also consider the Halzan. I have it in the 25 which might be smaller than you want but it really is a terrific bag for day.

Just a few more pics - this time the Evelyne tpm. I use these almost every day for dog walking when I don’t need to carry as much. They fit a surprising amount for their tiny size, small but mighty :P I know you are looking at bigger ones, but jic you decide another casual bag is in order at some point. They are so soft and lightweight and just fun to carry. The TPM’s carry my LV men’s pocket organizer wallet (the H mini bearn fits too), my AirPods Pro, My IPhone promax 15 (it fits completely inside), keys, a small tub of Lip Medex and a lippie. I can also put sunglasses in them too in a pinch (in a pouch not a case).

Hope you are getting the data you need! Can’t wait to see what you decide.

If you like to have your hands free and be able to just reach into your bag, the Evelyne is hard to beat. Definitely let us know what you end up with!! I'm sure the won't be your last H bag, so you cannot go wrong! Good luck!! :flowers:

I have an Evelyne and Jypsiere so I can comment on those.
My Evies are my most used bags because of the easy access. I love my Jypsiere but the flap is what keeps me from using it as an obvious daily go-to. It’s a great bag though and I actually think it’s prettier than the Evie. I don’t find mine heavy. I considered the 31 for a while and it’s the one I originally wanted but when my SA got in a 28, I realized it was the perfect size for me.
