I love the idea of barenia - in it's mid-brown/contrast stitching/blind stamp incarnation.

I would love this as a practical workhorse bag, and really concerned about the ability of barenia to stand up to a moderate climate and sticky little fingers.

Has anyone find a workable alternative in that rich brown and contrast stitching that I love that's far more carefree? And would phw be complete heresy?

Oh Penny- I love fauve colour, just worried about barenia leather- wondered if anything would take the colour as well, in fauvre, and not give me so many headaches!

^^^^ Fauve is available in Tadelakt leather with the same contract stitching and looks very like Naturel Barenia, except it has more of a sheen and feels smoother, whereas Barenia has a more waxy feel to it and is possibly a thicker skin. However, I am not too sure how it wears as I only have a belt in Tadelakt and an agenda in N.Barenia, no larger pieces. I would guess that Tadelakt could show scratches, like box, but over time look great (vintage), whereas you probabley know that Natural Barenia marks easily and darkens, sometimes unevenly, but scratches can be buffed out due to the natural oils in the skin.
Hope this helps?

i have a fauve tadelakt kelly and the color is beyond fabulous. however i haven't really worn it so i cannot attest to how it might wear over time. i'm certain it won't "stain" as barenia does however. i was told it will wear better than box.....but who ever knows?
gold in chevre is lovely too....looks much different than gold in togo/clemence.

Thanks esmeh - I mistook a piece of tadelakt for barenia in a small leather goods, and was impressed. Would really love to know if this translates well to a kelly or birkin - 32/35.

JMO, my 32 vintage Barenia HAC from HauteGallery (the texture has flattened prior to my acquiring the bag) after docride treatment, can withstand rain storms and dry out perfectly - no blotches.

noisette box is very similar in color but not handfeel

as is patinated porc.

I think phw would be very nice :)

Roo, I had a noisette box birkin and my recollection is that it was very similar to my current natural barenia in terms of color. Box has the shine which gives it a dressier feel. Personally I prefer palladium (brushed even better) with both natural barenia and noisette box.

I hope 880 doesn't mind me posting a pic of her Noisette Box Jige next to my Natural Barenia Picotin and Barenia/Toile Evelyne. Color is just about the same. Box is smoother/shinier compared to my one month in use Barenia Picotin which is matte and silky since patina hasn't been established. Takelkat will give you a more matte look. Hope this helps.

I have a well-patina'd 10 year old barenia 32 HAC which doesn't seem to have a problem with drips of rain, coffee (whoops), sticky fingers, etc. I think once you get it broken in or preferably buy it already broken in it's not so high maintenance. You have to like the look of the saddle leather though. It is a bit rugged not ladies who lunch kind of vibe. Which appeals to me but if you like "perfection" maybe not. Also, I have brushed palladium on mine and I think it looks great.

Thank you tesi

If you've posted a picture elsewhere, would you mind directing me there to have a little look? TIA

 very good to know - can the same treatment prevent the handles from darkening - or would I have to wear gloves daily? :amuse: and thanks for the phw approval (seems to fly in the face of warm colours and gold rule, but like to break them - well, occasionally!)
