Bags at concerts & other high-security venues

Went to a concert in Miami and I saw a few women being turned away with their Chanel bags. They had a sign posted where you could hold your bag and make sure it was within the allowed size. I wondered what you would do with such an expensive bag if turned away. That was the strictest I had seen. Most venues that I go to are ok if your bag is within reason of what is allowed. I use a small leather 5x7 purse from Amazon.

I ended up buying a wristlet and a removable chain cross body strap and I keep the chain in the wristlet until I’m through security. For whatever reason, if it looks like a wallet I have no issues, exact same size purse - gets checked.

Not exactly the same thing, but I went to a football/soccer match in Munich and they made me check-in my favourite black suede bag from The Row. I know it’s not Hermes or Chanel, but it has been my absolute favourite bag for years and years now. I spent the whole match worried about getting it back! (It isn’t even that big.)

My venue changed from forcing to use a clear bag, to now forcing guests to use a solid, but tiny bag. Makes no sense.

Old policy, right around when it was mandatory that all venues required clear bags only:

To today. The rules are now solid, but teeny tiny size.

It's really confusing and angered a lot of Sharks fans last year, because they were forced to buy the Sharks clear bag for a lot of money but only used it for a year.

I have not gone to the venue since 2013, but hopefully the rules will be more relaxed then when I do go in the future.

Halooo Everyone. Bumping this thread. I am attending a concert (T.S Eras Tour) March next year. Was wondering if you have any bag recommendations/suggestions for the concert? :D

I am initially planning on bringing my Chanel Square Mini, due to the size restrictions, but I am kind of worried. Has anyone tried using their designer bags for huge concerts? To be safe, do you suggest to just bring a fuzz-free low-key bag from a fast-fashion brand instead?

P.S. I know it's still early, but I'm excited and really can't wait haha

I’d get a low-key bag. I just bought a navy Kipling Tally a few days ago for a sporting event I plan to attend in a few months. The venue I’m going to only allows bags 6.5 x 4.5 so I wanted something inexpensive since I’m not sure I’ll ever use it again.

I carry any of my WoCs (Chanel, Goyard or Valentino) or my Chanel mini typically.

wow that is smaller than the typical size restrictions on venue. but i think that is a good choice, thanks i'll also keep this as an option.

I went to a football match in Munich once carrying my Allie bag by The Row. Big mistake! I had to check it in - on top of not wanting to let my bag out of my sight in the first place (it was my favourite), it was over an hour of lining up after to get it back! I have tickets to TS Eras in Europe next spring and will NOT be bringing any bag I particularly care about. And I will keep it within any posted size restrictions. Lining up for an hour or two after a fantastic event is not a good way to end an otherwise great night.

The thing to do is check the venue and event restrictions beforehand so you don't end up checking a bag. I don't bring valuable bags to crowd events - plenty of beer has been poured on my bags at games and concerts over the years!

I have season tickets to the Washington Capitals. I've always been able to bring in my Hermes TPM Evelyne to the arena. But @QuelleFromage makes an excellent point to check with the venue first.

One other thing, check out Marfa Stance www.marfastance.com. Her jackets and vests have great interior and exterior pockets that can easily carry keys, wallet, etc. I met the designer at a trunk show and she said she designed the items to enable people to not have to carry a bag. I own a jacket and two vests, and they are marvelous.
