Hey everyone, so I have a slightly discolored but otherwise great Miu Miu bag that I scored preloved for a very reasonable price. I live in Brooklyn. Does anyone have a bag specialist they recommend?

Edited to fix autocorrect oops

You can drop in person or ship. Rago has been the official repair location for several luxury brands and unofficial for some NYC area luxury stores. Check out their instagram. I have used them as have others on purse forum.

I know that they do repairs for BV, so one is in good hands
How do you know this is the case? I took a BV bag here last week and they didn't know how to repair it. My bag has a scuff on one corner where the color has come off. He told me they would likely need to re-dye the whole thing and he couldn't guarantee the color would be the same. If they worked BV, I would expect he could match it and make it look close to new again.

How do I know this from my own personal experience. I am a BV collector specifically a "knot collector"
for years. If & when I had issues images were sent to Modern with excellent communication I might add & a repair
was completed beyond my expectations, so that is why I can recommend Modern with confidence.
If you also go to the BV forum, you will see that many tpf'ers recommend Modern for bag repairs

I've seen the recommendations, but that was not my experience at all when I stopped by their shop and showed them my bag which is why I'm confused as to why people speak positively about them.

@Litsa, may I ask which bag it was?

Can you show us images of the area needed in repair?
As mentioned. many of us speak from experience for an array of BV styles that have been repaired
quite satisfactorily.
Since you appear to be in the NYC area, did you bring your bag into BV to get their thoughts?
Is this the WHITE bag that you posted an image of in the BV thread?

Yes it’s the white mini loop bag that I recently purchased. I did take it to BV first but they quoted me $300 which I’m not willing to pay.

Thank you for your response. I can understand ML’s thought process on this, as it would be pretty impossible to assuredly match whatever white this is; so they’d want to make sure the bag was colored evenly. In the era before Daniel Lee’s reign as creative director, the workmanship was such that we all knew the colors, down to the shade. I think as new folks came on and changed things up, not necessarily in a good way, the quality changed. BV used to send repairs to … you guessed it, Modern Leather. I don’t know if they still do. I know that with the BV bags I have (pre Daniel Lee) I would still trust ML with any work to be done.

If you are at all crafty, and if there is a Tandy Leather Company in your area, take the bag in to them and they’ll match the white and provide you with the tools you’d need to paint that spot.

Modern Leather doesn’t “make it look close to new again” - they make it ’as new’ or ‘impossible to tell the difference’; their reputation as leather craftsman is built on that premise. Tony must have had his reasons for what he offered to do for you. ML has probably keenly felt the changes in BV as well.

Good luck with your craftsman search.
