No backups, not even for Le Pliage - I have several but all are in different sizes/styles. Almost all are in different colors as well. For anything more expensive, I'd skip backups altogether. I do know a few people that have the same style in a bazillion different colors, but the bags are usually a classic style like Chanel flap, M Lily or Bal.

I've only ever purchased back ups of clothes, I'm get particular about fit and fabric feel. For bags, the only bag I've ever owned more than 1 of is an MbMJ classic q natasha. I really love its versatility but i also love to change things up. Buying it in different colors wasn't satisfying my desire for variety. For me, something about a new bag and its different pockets, compartments, etc is so exciting.

I do with shoes, but those are much cheaper and if I love a pair I have been known to buy a second as they are more likely to wear/fall apart. Handbags never.
I had two pair of the same sandals - different colors. I wear them all the time in summer (which is long here) and haven't found any other style I like as much as far as looks and comfort. After wearing the original two pair for a couple of years, I noticed the heels on the black ones were in bad shape. Took to shoe repair and he fixed for $20. After that I fund a new pair in the other color I had (sage) on Poshmark for not much more than I paid for the repair.
So now I have original black ones - repaired. Original sage ones (getting worn) and new sage ones.
There are a couple more pair of the sage ones on Posh. I'm thinking maybe I should get another pair. But will something change with me before I wear these out? The price is great - like $25 for shoes that sold for around $125 originally.

I've done it before, but ended up gutting my collection and starting over - so ultimately, there was no point in it. I don't think I'd do it again, but who knows?
