If there's a bag you really like and enjoy, do you buy a backup?

There's one being offered to me, preloved, in great condition. But I already have that exact bag.

I haven’t done so but I’ve been tempted.

I think if I loved it, I knew I’d use it to death, and it would be hard to replace, I’d consider it.

That being said, there are always great new bags coming out so I probably would just enjoy the bag I have while I could and then be happy to look for something new when it’s time was done. Especially since it would be yeeeeaars before I could see myself actually wearing out my bags (if ever) as I have a few and rotate them all.

Thought about it, but not done it. I expect my bags to last a few years - after that point I may be bored with the style, or it might feel dated. And bags age and deteriorate in storage anyway. Better to take good care of the original one.

It's always a very tempting idea, but I've not owned designer bags long enough to have tested whether I would regret not having a backup or not. Would love to see if more people regret it in the end or not.

I think a possible pro-backup argument would be because bag quality has gradually declined in recent years. If the trend continues, even if you had the opportunity to purchase the same bag again at retail, the quality might not be what it used to be.

No I don’t do backups any more (clothes, shoes)
I usually don‘t like the other piece, it is outdated, not as comfortable as the first piece. Once I had shoes that lasted for years, the backups only month - i think that the glue was outdated?

After all once in a while I like a new style

Agree with Senf. Plus, tastes/needs change.
In 10 years or so, required to destroy a good bag, there will be new choices to explore.

Also, storage--gathering spare luxury items, for Doomsday, eats into space for toilet tissue, canned goods & ammo.
Cannot fight off zombie hordes with spare handbags.;)

I'm very particular and I don't like that many bags that come and go. Some bags become invaluable. I have done it twice but it was a long time ago, on tan leather Loewes worn everyday as cross-bodies and the other pair Burberrys, same scenario. Go ahead If you can't bear to think of yourself without that bag. I have 3 x made in Brazil boots just all slightly different (1 x tan, 1 x black, 1 x black with straps). I also have 2 x work shoes in black, one bought at full price ad the other in the sale.

I think now I would prob, go for a slightly different colour (one I liked equally) for instance I have 2 grey Gucci BTH but one is more Winter, darker ad with ghw and the other more Summer and with shw and that works for me because I use both not have oe stored away. . If that's not possible go for it, everyone's different.

I sort of cheated a bit... I have a chanel calfskin metallic rose gold rectangular mini in silver hardware that I looove to death. It’s so versatile because the shade was a silvery pink and not a dark pink that I can wear it with jeans to take kids to park or it can be perfect with an evening dressed up outfit (among a sea of chanel black bags :P)

I scratched it a bit in the back during a late night supermarket run (I stumbled) and though it was not significant, it remained me that calfskin in metallic is still not all that durable as I need this bag to be. So, I tried to locate another of the same but of course it was all sold out. Luckily, a few seasons later, chanel came out with a caviar iridescent pink mini with silver hardware in chevron pattern (vs the quilted one I have). It’s very slightly darker in shade but with the iridescence it glistens too. I bought that one intended as the back up for my other. I know that this neutral (but to me not boring) in a classic bag style will be a forever bag that I won’t tire of with much versatility so even though it was a very expensive item to have as back up, I am more than ok with it. I don’t regret this decision to date

I do this with very comfortable and yet stylish versatile shoes because they are sooooo hard to find!!! I have a few spare pairs of low flat boots and 2 inch almond toe pumps with stacked heels that I have multiple pairs in many colors on reserve.

I'll buy the same style in different colors but not the same exact bag.
I do this all the time. LOL! But they aren’t back ups. I wear them all now.

Shoes are a bit different to me. They don’t last as long so there is less of a risk of styles changing before I get to a back up. And, most importantly, I need my shoes to be comfy so if I find gorgeous, functional high heels for work that are comfy (I’m currently on the hunt!), I’d definitely buy them full price and buy a back up.

Worth their weight in gold

If I loved the bags looks and functionality and still felt the same after using it a lot for a few months, I would.
I'd love to have another Nikki, I love how the bag looks and how it opens up nice and wide with all the pockets. Also, it's very comfortable to carry.
I have an older Kooba I love and am looking for a back up now.

Well maybe if you fill the handbag with canned goods and get a perfect swing at the zombie’s head! Lol
