Bad idea for a wedding band?

I really like your ering too and like the wedding band you posted. Not sure about its longevity since you'll most likely wear it a lot. Unless you save it for special occasions until you get your dream ring? For now, I also like the idea of a plain band too.

HI, I wanted to respond to you about the wear. I have two wedding bands, one on both sides (top and bottom) of my e-ring. For a long time I didn't get them soldered, but over time I noticed they were really wearing on the edges, and not evenly since they didn't always set perfectly. It was fixed once I had them soldered together. So yes, they can wear on each other.
I would suggest something like this: So pretty and depending on your budget, you could get 14k or 18k:

or: http://www.jansjewells.com/item.php?item_id=1140
And I know Ebay isn't everybody's thing, but my favorite .50cttw wedding band that I wear everyday i bought for $150-ish on ebay,
Here are a few that might work?

I have seen those in person at a jewelry show thing and they are cute, but are costume. The silver plated aspect would worry me with your engagement ring. I like the plain band idea for now. You could probably pick up one in your budget. Also, maybe Ebay and Diamondbistro.com is another place to look. Diamond Bistro is an online classifieds website for jewelry from individuals, like Ebay, and I've bought a handful of things with really good transactions.

My suggestion would be to add a relatively inexpensive band as Cady suggested & if you're worried about wear, consider getting a 1mm spacer band in 18kt white or sterling silver to wear between them- that will help prevent any wear and tear from occurring too quickly.

The Tiffany Swing band is gorgeous! It would go beautifully with your e-ring

I'm in the same boat as you - when DH and I got married, it was a choice between our dream honeymoon and my dream wedding band. Initially we ordered the band in palladium to save $ but that idea was unceremoniously tossed by DH (without any real discussion w/ me, btw, lol) and he suggested I settle for a plain band for the time being. Three years later and I'm still contemplating a new band, but only time will tell if it happens or not, lol.

I think the bands you've posted are lovely and would looks great, but I would look for something SS instead of silver plated. If it helps, I frequently wear my platinum rings with silver and WG, and I don't notice much wear and tear on the metals. Either way, enjoy your search and I hope you find something you love soon! :)

Are your two bands the same metal as your e-ring?

Sorry to hijack your thread Crystalina! I am hearing a lot of mixed opinions about metal wear and am in search of a w-band too. I also agree that the swing ring is gorgeous and the stackable rings you linked are so very pretty. I would wear them on my right hand versus with my e-ring. Though I know that defeats their purpose since you want to wear them as w-bands!

Have you tried looking into pre-loved swing rings? I don't know what size you are and I know the rings are not sizeable. But maybe one of these I found a few on ebay just happen to be your size . . .:

Yes they are 14k white gold. It took a year of everyday wear to really notice it though. I will say I have a different WG band I wear everyday and I only occasionally wear my e-ring wedding set combo nowadays. I wear them together when I do wear it, and I haven't noticed wear between these two. But I'm only wearing them 1 or 2 times per week.

You know, the more I think about it, all the uneven wearing was on the underside (palm side). Up at the top they definitely scratched each other giving the sides of my rings a matte look, but it was different than the bottom side where the rings actually were "worn" thinner in spots..sorta.

I have a beautiful diamond eternity band that hubby bought me for our 15th anniversary and I love it! problem is, my original engagement ring did not look good with it, so, I wear the band alone and had the engagement ring set into a necklace. But I really miss having an engagement ring to go with it. I have always toyed with buying a really nice CZ ering to go with it, just wasn't sure if that ws wrong or tacky, but, Now I am thinking about it again.

I think you already know you won't be happy with it. Honestly I don't care what the ring is made of or what the stones are, I just don't think the rings will look good together. I would either wear the ering on the right hand and wear the origional wedding band, or another on the left until you can afford what you want. The only one who has to like the way they look is YOU, so you need to decide!

skphotoimages - thanks for the info! I went into Cartier and was looking at their w-bands but they only have wg in the setting I want. The SA scoffed at the idea that mixed metal e-ring and bands would "rub" or "damage" each other. I felt a little stupid for asking about it because she threw the "my 20 years of working at Cartier, and I have never heard of a problem" line.

Anyway, I guess it's better to match metals than risk having anything happen to your e-ring or w-band. The band on my e-ring is very thin so I an nervous about it wearing down over the years, but I guess I will worry about that later. . .

Well if your e-ring is platinum, I don't think I would worry about it with WG. I'd worry more about the WG with the platinum. I don't know why, but gold rings on me have always worn and changed shaped and what not. It's weird.
The one thing I would worry about getting a WG ring and pairing it with platinum is the difference in color. Unless you plan on keeping up with re-rhodium plating, platinum and WG have very different looks to them.

I know plenty of friends who have GORGEOUS but unique engagement rings and wear no wedding band with it as it would take away from the design. I honestly prefer the look my e-ring without the band, even though it matches and sits flush....
I don't think you look any less married with just the beautiful e-ring you already own. I'd wait for what you really want...but still wear it as a right hand ring. I love your ring, btw!

Have you looked in local pawn shops? After I was married I wanted to get a anni band to wear on the other side of my e-ring but DH and I didn't have the money for it at the time so I stopped by a few pawn shops looking for a channel set I could wear as a anni band and I found one thats almost a match to my wedding band for $140 and I swear the ring looked brand new. Its .50ct 18Kt white gold and had it appraised at over $1200. The stock is always changing and alot is brand new. Also like others stated eBay is great. I got a 3 stone .50ct ring for alittle over $100 and the same sells at Kay Jewelers for $800. Good luck and don't settle unless you LOVE LOVE the ring!

Thank you to each of you for your wonderful and thoughtful responses. You are so kind to offer ideas, alternatives and links to help me solve this delimna.

So many creative solutions I've never even thought about! I will be spending the next day or two visiting these sites you've suggested and see what I can find. Like I said, money is tight but I think we can afford to spend about $250 until I am able to afford my dream ring (Tiffany Swing!)

Hugs to all of you for your great ideas....I appreciate it so much and I'll let you know what I come up with! :hugs:
