Yes perhaps if anything, if I want that stacked look, getting that teenie mirco speedy bag charm may be cute but paying $1k or whatever the cost, is just tooooooo MUCH! I don't think it holds anything but coins! Lol . I can't bring myself to spend that much for a bag charm. Just $490 more (as of today) I got my Classic Speedy DE 25! LolI think the proportions are too big to be a bag charm companion. I think just using a twilly or bag charm is appropriate.

I think it looks good. It is practical and I like the colors, size and patterns together (with or without the scarf). I think you should do what YOU like. Most people are afraid to try new things and look "weird" but I've never cared what people think and follow my own sense of aesthetics. I do understand being on the fence about something though and wanting second opinions. You're getting a mixed response, so I say keep it like that for a few days and see how you like it.
Regarding the scarf being too busy, I don't think it reads as busy in the photos. To me, the scarf pulls the 2 pieces together a little more. The repeating checkerboard provides continuity across all 3 pieces (both bags and the scarf). The picture on the scarf also provides visual balance to some of the elements of the smaller bag: the rope mimics the chain, and the tag repeats the printed latch and the leather tab.
I say be brave and go for it. You can always take it apart again if you aren't loving it.
