When I looked at the one online I compared the view of it open and there are some significant differences I think

I dont know either, but just looking at mulberry.com it looks very different

The dustbag is fake so it doesn't bode well for the ipad case, which also looks mightily suspicious to me.

Oh - didn't know that.. Seems to be a rare specimen indeed, since I can't find any pics or anything of an Alexa tote on Google or so either..
It also came with the brown Mulberry tag and the carecards, which look perfectly fine as well, just saw them.
Tag says 'Alexa soft buffalo tote black' and the season it's from is A/W 10.

May I ask what exactly a sample bag is (just don't know if this question belongs into this thread..)?

I have also never seen this model, so it could be a sample, meaning some were made and never reached production. The barcode tags are not always correct regarding season, and often the barcode tags do denote it is a sample, but again not always. It certainly looks genuine as Lakrits and Kris have already said.
