Thanks so much as always Hyacinth!
The straps look different than the 5230 I recently bought my sister-in-law. Did that change over time?

Sorry, all I have to go by is a few catalog pictures and the straps in the listing look the same as my catalog pics. Maybe someone else can answer your question.5230_Shoulder Brief_1989 Spr Preview-a.jpg

You had one authenticated on Nov 30, but I'm not seeing any differences. Is that the one you mean? They seem the same.

Thanks Hyacinth!
This bag looks very similar to the one I got my sister-in-law (which I really liked and is why I just bought it for myself! Yay!)
From what I'm seeing the straps on this bag aren't flat like the 5230; is also missing those extra sewn-on strips that extend below each handle end where it's attached to the bag, down to the bottom of the bag.
Hope I'm making sense and this helps.

Interesting. The bag you posted in November and the bag you asked about today both have flat straps and are the same style. The pictures you just posted look like rolled straps and the bag appears to be a different style.

Thank you, Hyacinth. May I assume that listings by Boristhekat need not be authenticated?

Probably not, but even an experienced Coach seller or buyer can miss a well-made fake, especially if the only red flag is something very few people would know, like a plant code that was never used for the country shown on the creed, or a bag that wasn't even made until 2 years after the date code in the serial number. But I also know that if an honest seller found out that she had made that kind of mistake, she wouldn't hesitate to give her buyer a full refund.

Still, we like to keep our members on their toes.

I'll keep your advice in mind. Thank you.

Could you or another of you experts authenticate one more bag for me, please. I would like to do a rehab and this looks like a good candidate:

It's a different style altogether. There aren't any reinforcement leather strips that extend under the strap mountings either, and the strap attachments are different. It won't have the same style number. I'm wondering about the stitching at the base of the straps, it looks strange and not as neat as I'd expect from Coach. The kind-of-padded-but-not-really strap mounting tabs on the body of the bag look odd too. Most handbag styles with those kind of rolled handles use rivets at the base of the straps, not the sloppy stitching I'm seeing in those photos. Now I'm wondering if that creed stamp even belongs to that case, and whether it's actually a Coach. Those half-rolled straps or handles or whatever they are don't seem very practical as shoulder straps. Or maybe the straps were added afterwards by the owner onto some kind of Portfolio?

I'll try to find it in my catalogs.

ETA - I think I found it.
Style 5092, Gramercy Brief that was listed as New in the Spring 1991 catalog. Same details and straps including non-riveted attachments. It had disappeared by Spring 1992. Here's a photo from the Holiday 1991 book:

I really appreciate that Hyacinth!
FYI I did realize that it was a different style than the one I had bought for my sister-in-law.
But I am OK with that as it is close in size, and has those big outside pockets which will help keep my papers organized.

UHOH - just read your added info. Hope it's authentic - pls keep me posted!

Yep, the back of the TURNLOCK plate should have a ridge, but not the grommet.

And the turnlock is higher up on the flap than the red one. I think it should be closer to the bottom of the flap.

Here's another odd mini city bag. This is the first one I've ever seen in white and I've NEVER seen one with COACH imprinted on the front....not to mention it's missing the hang tag and proper key ring and chain.
