I can't start threads yet but just want to take a moment to pass along a "THANK YOU!!"

My aunt owns a small consignment boutique and had someone come in with a whole bunch of purses. She was able to use the threads (especially the one about serial numbers) in here to be able to turn this person away with their good but fake bags.

Hi all, I found a Coach purse at Goodwill and wanted to check the authenticity!

Item Name (if you know it): Not too sure of the name!
Link (if available): n/a

Serial code : 335-0001

Length: about 11 in Width: about 7.5 in. I hope it's real! It feels so buttery soft to be fake!!

It looks to me as if the serial number has 5 numbers, a dash, and then 2 more numbers. Please check and confirm. Try lightly brushing a pale frosted powder eyeshadow across the numbers and then wiping off the extra while leaving some of the powder inside the numbers.

The style is strange, the 2 different colors don't look like any Spectator combination I've seen before, and the border around the creed statement isn't right either.

Aww man, it does! I took a flash light and tried to wipe some of the gunk with a wet rag and can now see
The numbers are what SEEM to be
22 O 96 - OO or 00...hard to say
But there also seems to be a corner of a square imprint from the press?? Not sure
So does this mean I am now the proud owner of a Foach?! :(

We're very happy to hear it. :smile1:

Unfortunately, yes. Coach serial numbers that were ALL numbers should never have five numbers between the "No" and the dash, or just 2 numbers after the dash. Along with the other things I mentioned they clearly prove the bag is fake. I hope you can get your money back.

Another sign of a fake is how badly made the Coach logo on the creed stamp is. You can't even see the tiny triangular opening in the center of the "A" and the shapes of the letters aren't quite right. A real Coach logo from that time period would look like the one below, the thicker letters like the one you have would have been an earlier style but the letters and one or two other details still aren't right - see the bag in post 904 as well:

Can you post a photo of one of the sides of the bag so we can see the end of the strap and how it's attached to the bag? And are there any pockets underneath the front flap or on the outside of the back?

Boo my first fake!! Hmmm ya know it was such horrible lighting in the store that I couldn't see the logo very well at all. Once I got it outside I had doubts BUT I won't take it back, I got it from a thrift that's non profit and gives its work to people in a half way house so the $4 isn't too much of a loss (as much as I hate that I purchased a fake) but I am going to use it as practice for rehabbing my others.
Thanks again for your amazing knowledge I am impressed every time! :)

Ok, PLEASE don't hate me ladies...after my fumble with the Foach today I actually scored the mother load (from a different shop)

Comments: Please help! I just purchased this Coach Ergo bag - one I have wanted for a very long time. The seller provided a good number of photos, and I was very satisfied with the seller's communication and feedback. I noticed the creed photo seemed blurry, but I thought it must be just the camera resolution, etc. I was just so eager to finally own this bag. When I received the bag, I was very confused to see that the creed is actually that faint in real life! It is completely unreadable. I can barely make out the 10744, and I cannot read any of the words on the creed! I know the seller advertised the bag as authentic and it could have been an honest mistake. Is it normal for an authentic Coach creed to wear away to the point of being unreadable? I sincerely and greatly appreciate all help as to the authenticity of this bag! Many thanks!

You'll have much better luck finding someone familiar with that exact style and the disappearing creed if you ask at the main Coach forum if anyone else who might have owned that style and style number has had the same problems. Apparently the few people who post on this thread don't know that style from personal experience.

If they can answer your question, please come back here and post the links to both your original post and the answer you received.
