About the wear - this one was made sometime in the mid-1980s so there's going to be wear on the creed and other areas if it was used often. Things like jewelry and even fingernails can wear down leather over the years.
Thank you, Hyacinth! I appreciate your comments. Good to know that the purse has just been used and loved.

I've read some of your guides for Coach bags on eBay - thanks so much for sharing those! I feel a lot more confident now purchasing the bag.

Thanks again!

Aloha Hyacinth,

Your probably wondering, "why the heck" am I only replying to you now!! I apologize - I obviously got seriously sidetracked. Lol! It's been so long, I spent the last twenty minutes trying to remember my username/password for the site. :giggles:

Thank you so much for your very detailed response to my question. I truly appreciate your knowledge and advice and will be updating my listings when I can (I've got limits now because of that bag) and making changes accordingly. Anything to help make things easier for customers and it does make sense - I don't know why I didn't think of it sooner.

I do have the "Fake Serial Numbers" list on my computer favorites. I use it and refer to it often. I can't afford to get burned again.

I will try to spend more time here, checking in and gaining more knowledge. I did work in retail selling Coach bags for over 15 years but I don't have nearly the knowledge that you have - I love reading your posts - they're the best!

Anyways, thanks so much again for everything and so sorry for the late response.

Aloha,
Lauren :smile1:

Glad you found the Salearea Guides useful! Please be sure to ask here if you have any doubts at all about a bag's authenticity but be sure NOT to link back to any of your Active auctions. Use links or pics to Photobucket or whatever hosting site you use (since Photobucket's most recent "upgrade" has made it almost un-useable).

Love the looks of this Station bag but I'm suspicious

Item: Vintage Coach Green Willis Station Bag RARE

Seller: VioletCrownMerch

Link: http://www.etsy.com/listing/1279253...search_type=vintage&ga_facet=vintagecoach+bag

Comments: Have a feeling seller's description is incorrect and I have reservations about purchasing...thoughts?

The seller's dates are waaaaaaay off, for one thing. A "Made in NYC" creed was never used in the 60s when Coach didn't use creed stamps OR serial numbers at all. The Station Bag, or Shoulder Pouch Large as style 5130 was originally called, doesn't seem to have even been made until some time in the early 1980s. It may have been discontinued for a year or so around 1986 and then brought back in 1987 as the Station Bag with a few design changes, like an inside pocket. If anyone has a catalog showing an older date, I'd love to see a scan.

The off-center creed is a bit odd but it wouldn't be the first one I've seen.

This one may be a very early version but it still would only be mid-1980s since it has a stamped serial number. The early 1983 listing doesn't mention any inside pocket and that apparently wasn't added until it was re-introduced and re-named in 1987, so I'm going to date the one in the listing with no inside back-panel pocket for some time between 1983-1986.

I'd like to state that anyone using the " Mrharley47 " Guide to Coach dates and serial numbers posted at Ebay and other places is getting WRONG information. Many if not most of the dates are wrong by at least 10 years and sometimes more and that "guide" is another one that should NOT be relied on.

Thanks so much Hyacinth! I've already learned a great deal from your postings...certainly VERY helpful to someone very much into vintage or classic Coach bags like myself! It does make me wonder why those who post bags for sale online don't look around to get correct information...

Can you please help me authenticate this? Thanks in advance =)
