Please authenticate this Coach Secret Admirer Scarf!

Seller: Ebay - Roxanne1074.

My boyfriend got me this scarf from ebay to match my bag (that I got from a Coach store) but the red on the scarf is an orangey red while it is a deep red on my bag. It just seems that Coach would have used the same color.

The tag on the scarf has these numbers: CA22608 and RN26128. It says "Made in China
Dry Clean
Fabrique En Chine
Nettoyage A Sec
100% Silk/Soie

I don't see any problems with this scarf or the seller. I have noticed that the scarves don't always match the bags with the same pattern. I always thought it was because silk absorbs the dye differently than the fabrics used on the bags.

I agree that the scarf looks fine.

Thanks!

There are a few things about this bag that worry me.

The stitching quality seems a little "off". Look at the zoom pics of the tabs holding the straps, and especially at the way the piping is sewn along the sides and bottom. Granted, Coach piping isn't always perfect with the exact same amount of leather all the way through on each side of the stitching, but this one just looks rough.

The "fixed handle" design worries me too. There aren't many other styles from that time period using that kind of handle design - newer Book Totes may sometimes use it but stiff non-moveable handles don't show up in many other older styles. The handles just don't seem like a Coach detail, but it's still possible. I know some older styles had that sort of handle but I'm not sure if Coach carried it through to the late 1980s or early 90s.

ETA - I notice that you bought one with an NYC creed that looks ok but that handle looks a bit more substantial. If the coral one is genuine it would probably be from almost the same time period. The red one looks like a Standard Tote style 9680 from maybe 1983. It looks like it had been discontinued some time before 1986. The coral one is similar to a Small Tote from the same line but the handle mounts are different and the creed is a few years too new.

The serial and creed seem to indicate a bag made in the late 80s to early 90s, but I can't find anything in my files or catalogs. Not proof either way since my catalog collection isn't anywhere near complete, but there also aren't any similar styles. Usually Coach would introduce more than one bag that shared styling details with others brought out at the same time. Here there's nothing similar in any other style. If it's real it would have to have been from some very short-lived line that was only in production for a few months and maybe only made it into one or two catalogs.

The color is VERY unusual for that time period. Coach usually stayed away from "feminine" pastels and I don't remember any genuine styles from that time period available in any shade of coral. The closest shade to it was a color called Terra Cotta from early 1993.

It may be ok but there's no way I'd give more than a 50-50 chance.
Hyacinth, Merry Christmas...I received my bag and I have the link to flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/76058330@N03/sets/72157632347937076/

Would you be so kind to look at it again and tell me what you think, I did some minor research and some other totes from the 70's called the Cashin Carry look like this but have different handles and since this one is from the 80's could it be a re-make of that? Thank you for your time.

Item: Coach Station Bag
Listing: ended already
Seller: high-end-look-again on eBay
My husband bought the for me, it has been shipped but not here yet. Just checking to make sure it's okay.
( I didn't know he bought it until after he'd paid for it )
TIA!
Did not mean to add screenshot of actual listing...oops. Sorry.

I posted the above before we received the bag. I waited until I opened the gift my hubs gave me containing the bag. Since I'm pretty sure ( now ) it's fake, hopefully hubby can get a refund.

Posting a picture of the creed now that the bag is in my possession. Also posted inside of front pocket.

Sorry, it's fake. The second digit for the year code isn't clear, but "S" was never a valid month code. There may be other problem areas but an invalid creed is more than enough proof.

Ok, I found the original listing. The fake number shows in the photos.

The leather tab holding the open part of the turnlock isn't quite right either. It should be more tapered at the base of the round part where it extends down to hold the turnlock hardware, and the lower part is too wide on the fake. Compare the shape to other Station Bags. The fake is the last photo.

Thank you Hyacinth. I figured it was. Now to tell hubby since I have proof. He thought "S" meant September. It was in route when I first posted, hope it's not too late for him to get a refund.

I added another comment to my earlier post and a few pics for comparison. Your hubby must be disappointed, poor guy. But his heart was in the right place, and it would have been a nice bag if it had been genuine. Give him a hug from the tPF Ladies!

Any thoughts on this bag? It looks good to me, but I'm curious about the stamp on the hardware. If it is legit, any thoughts about the date of manufacture and/or style name?

Thanks!

Some Coach hardware on bags from the late 1990s was stamped, like this one. It's not a problem as long as it's correct for the style.

The bag is from the early Chelsea line, called a Chelsea Hobo. This one was made in July for the Fall 1998 line and it looks completely genuine.

It's very possible that it was a remake, I just don't have any way to verify it since I can't find the style on paper. The Cashin styles aren't my specialty so maybe someone else will be able to compare the design details to the Cashin Carry bags. When Sara Lee bought the company in the mid-80s they tried a lot of styles that disappeared quickly if they didn't sell strongly, this could be one of them. It wouldn't have been made until 1988 or later though.

Other than not being able to verify the style or the design details, there's nothing that would indicate or prove it's a fake.

Hi everyone,

I have been reading the forums for a long time but have never posted.. Can you please help me authenticate this bag? I think it's real but just want verification before I spend anything on it.

Thanks and happy holidays! :D

Thank you very much! I fell in love with the bag. Nice to have confirmation that it's legit.

WElcome to tPF. If this bag is in an online listing, please post a link to the listing as well as the seller ID. (See post #1 of this thread for the necessary info.)

If it's not online, we would need to see a picture of the full front of the bag in addition to the creed pic you posted.
