Two items for authentication, please. Both purchased at local thrift stores with a liberal return policy if they are fakes! As always, thank you.

1) Small turnlock case, olive green, no creed inside. It has one lined zipper pocket, and one unlined slip pocket.

2) Blue pebbled leather wallet. This is the one that most baffles/concerns me, because in addition to the embossed "Made in China", there is a "Made in China" *sticker* on the lining. All the pockets are lined with signature fabric. Slip pocket on back, zipper pocket on inside, with additional slip pockets.

Both genuine. The first one resembles a Turnlock Clutch but it doesn't have the clutch's details and it's smaller, probably from the late 1980s. The second one is a genuine style from one of the Soho lines but I don't have an exact name or style number on file. My guess is that it's from sometime around 2004, give or take a year or two either way.

Great, thanks!

What a haul! Where are you finding all these great purses? On the Courier Pouch, are the buckles stamped "pure brass"?

I am very stealthy on ebay :graucho: My local selection is VERY slim. I do not see "pure brass" stamped on the buckles... there is a lot of green on there, but I think I would be able to see it even with it.

CAN SOMEONE TELL ME IF THIS COACH POPPY SPOTLIGHT SEQUIN BAG IS REAL???!!!!!
i want to buy a spotlight but coach doesnt carry them anymore and i cant find them anywhere. my only option is ebay. but i dont want to get ripped off.

It looks like the photos might be of two different purses. Not only are the backgrounds different but there are small details that appear on one purse's photo but not the other's. Maybe it's just because of differences in the lighting, but with a new seller you have to be extra-careful.

COMMENT: The bullet on the creed concerns me a bit. Would Coach be that careless to bullet the centre of the creed? Not sure about the number either since I thought only older bags had the overstamping marks above the numbers?

Two problems - there are tons of questionable and fake bags out there with serials starting with J8*- usually with H-, D-, or Y- plant codes, and all of them are potential fakes. Right now it seems that possible fakes outnumber possible genuine bags with those prefixes.

Second -If you look closely at where the bullet is stamped, you can see exactly WHY they put it where they did. The word the bullet is stamped over is supposed to be "grain" but it sure looks like the first letter is actually a "C". Compare the general shapes of the other Gs and Cs on the creed to that letter (the shapes of the Cs and Gs on that creed stamp are very slightly different), and also notice that there's no little horizontal line in the center that would make it a G and not a C. That kind of mistake would NEVER be found on a real creed stamp, especially from as well-established a plant like the "D" plant.

So keep in mind - there ARE fake "overstamping" marks, and there ARE fake outlet marks. I'll post the photo here for reference.

EDITED TO ADD - Another thing I just noticed is that the name Coach at the top is very slightly tilted inside the cartouche. The C in front is higher than the H at the end, and it's not exactly centered either, the C is closer to the edge than the H is. We're talking maybe half a millimeter, but it's definitely uneven.

I think the creed looks crooked too not sure if it's the angle of the camera but it just looked weird to me...*sigh* I am dying to find a REAL bag like that though for that kind of price...
EDIT: also that was what I meant about the overstamping. That the only time I have noticed it on genuine bags were on the older ones and not on something that would be that new if it were real...I shall keep looking and report this one.

Hi Hyacinth! Please help authenticate these two Coach bags. What are their names if authentic. I already bought it and just waiting for them to arrive. TIA! :smile1:

The first one is a problem. What color is the bag, and are the strap buckles Brass or Silver?

The serial number J6D- says it was made in September of 1996, the middle number is the year code - but according to all my catalogs, that Small Hippie Flap wasn't made until the middle of 1999. Below is a photo of both Hippie Flaps from the Fall 1999 catalog with both listed as "new".

The second bag worries me because the metal "grommets around the holes in the strap for the buckle are silver-colored when they should be brass to match the rest of the hardware. Maybe they were just using cheap hardware but problems like that always need to be investigated. That plant code used with dates from the middle 1990s has appeared in both possible fakes and possible genuine bags so I can only say that I'm not sure if it's real or not.
