I guess if we are going to continue this discussion after this we should probably take it off-line because we are hijacking the authentication thread! Sorry, ladies!

I prefer to give vintage, unlined, glove-tanned bags a bath because it will clean and brighten the leather and I can reshape them to the original form. It also usually gets rid of that musty smell you sometimes get with older bags.

But there is always a risk that you could lose a little color. I usually see some color in the water in the sink but so far that hasn't been a problem, but I haven't worked on an orange bag.

I wasn't planning to give my forest green crossbody flap a bath because I didn't want to lose any of the gorgeous color, but it had a funky smell (like perfume or incense) so I dunked her. After her bath the smell was gone, her colors were brighter and richer, and I was able to reshape her to original form. Best of all, she was clean!!! See the link below for before and after pics.

If you have never given a bath to a vintage bag a bath, you could start with a lower-priced dark-color bag and see how it works for you, good luck!

Sorry. I did see the original post but was hoping that someone who had the clutch might respond.

Both appear to be okay but it bugs the heck out of me when sellers use stock photos. Clearly these sellers own a camera and know how to use it so there's no excuse for their use of Coach's copyrighted images.

The first one's probably authentic but I need to see the creed. The style is familiar , probably a Megan Bag #9921 from around 1993, but the creed pic is needed to confirm.

The second one may have been called an Ergo Patchwork Pouch, style # is 40832. One of the creed photos doesn't belong with that listing, the correct one for the pouch is the one without a serial number.
