I'm sorry, the Carly is fake.

Item: Coach Carly Med

Listing number: 280476213120

Seller: amerrel1

Link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280476213120

Comments: drats, I think i purchased a fake. I would just like to check with you ladies. i received it in the mail today.

The seller responded to me and said that "we" were wrong and the bag is authentic. The problems I see with the bag are

1. C's aren't centered on the seam
2. The logo on the Hang tag is crooked
3. The creed stitching is not very good. The stitching is white. I believe Brown Carly's have brown stitching on the creed.
4. Some of the words in the creed are mashed together without a space between them.
5. The brass hardware is very shiny.
6. The leather doesn't feel like any coach leather that I have felt before.
7. The "feet" on the bottom are very round, like a ball, not like other carly's i've seen.
8. The first part of the creed number is H0649, which I have found now is a common fake Carly number. Were Carly's made in 2006?

Seller stated that you think it is fake because there aren't enough pics to determine. Do you guys have any doubt? What to you calls fake?

I just really don't want to carry a fake. I also don't want to be ripped off.

Thanks for your help!

Hi, I am directed to post this over here (I had posted at the “answers to AUTHENTICITY questions!!!” thread)

1- “May I know if 2 bags of a same style/model but in different colour have the same kind of creed?

2- I found 2 bags of the same style in different colours (dark green C4D 9935 and Coral Red J4D 9935) but one has a "COACH LEATHERWARE" and the other just the word "COACH" on the creed. The rest of the wordings in the creed are exactly the same.

Can one tell whether either one or both are authentic? Does it matter whether the word "leatherware" is there?

3- What kind of bags will have the word "COACH LEATHERWARE" on the creed and hang tags? Would both the words on the hang tag and the one on the creed match? (as in the words "COACH LEATHERWARE" )

thanks alot for any one's help!”

I numbered yoour questions to make the answers a bit clearer.

1- the color of a bag has nothing at all to do with either the creed or the serial number. Two bags in the same style and color MADE IN 1994 OR LATER should have the same serial number and the same kind of creed ONLY if they were made in the same plant and in the same month and year. Coach creeds change constantly and that was especially true in the past before production was switched to China. Bags MAY have similar creeds even if they weren't "born" in the ame time and place.

Bags made before 1994 should never have the same serial number as another bag since those actually had numbers unique to each bag. You can tell if they were made before or after because bags made in 1994 and later will have at least one letter of the alphabet in the first half of the number. And this only applies to genuine bags, fakes are another story.

2- The number indicates that those bags were made in the same plant but one was made in March and the other in September of 1994. Coach phased out the "Leatherware" wording in the early 90s so it's very possible the later one wouldn't include it.

3- No, hangtags often don't match - they fall off, fall apart, get lost or damaged and are replaced with another that may or may not match the bag. Authenticity opinions of any Coach should never be based just on the hangtag.

Both bags are completely genuine. I've never personally bought from the first seller, but the second is not only on my Trusted Sellers list but is also the writer of one of the VERY few "buying guides" posted at Ebay that is actually useful and accurate. She's very knowledgable about vintage Coach.

Speaking of "buying Guides", whether at Ebay or on the internet, please NEVER depend on them for accurate information. I can probably count the number of useful Coach buying guides I've found on the fingers of one hand. The rest contain outdated, incomplete or just totally wrong information and aren't worth the electrons it takes to display them.

Hope this helps!

Since the seller won't refund, start a Dispute claim with Ebay immediately. And if you can post clear photos here of the creed patch, the dogleash clip on the strap, and the turnlock and hardware on either side of the bag including the hangtag, that would be a big help.

As other posters have told you, the bag is an obvious fake. The creed patch alone would be enough to prove it, the stamping is sloppy and the margins are wrong. That serial number is very common on fakes. Here's a GENUINE Carly creed from the same year - notice the differences. I'm also including pics of other areas of a genuine Carly that the fakers seldom get right::

The keychain itself seems to be ok but I'd be very cautious about buying anything else from that seller. Can you post a link to their other listings?
The seller on ebay is 2funny2. They don't have anything else for sale right now and I don't see anything suspicions in the completed listings, I was just very thrown off by the fake dustbag. Thank you for all your help!

Patent leather is difficult to photograph and make it look "right."

The bag is probably okay, but this is not a seller with whom I'd do business, either as a buyer OR a seller.

Please look at her feedback and also do a search for the seller ID. In the past, she has purchased bags from other sellers, filed disputes claiming damage in order to get partial refunds then she resells the bags without disclosing whatever flaws it supposedly had.

Feedback as a seller: http://toolhaus.org/cgi-bin/negs?User=taniboop&Dirn=Received+by&ref=home

Feedback she left as a buyer: http://toolhaus.org/cgi-bin/negs?User=taniboop&Dirn=Left+by

Thank you so much! I will look elsewhere.
