C0873:
A = January
B= February
C= March
D= April
E= May
F= June
G= July
H= August
I= September
J= October
K= November
L= December

so does this means that there should be no coach bags with creed number begins with letter M and above? fakes?

Hi,

Definitely wait for Hyacinth to comment. She's the creed expert.

However, my understanding is that "I" is the skipped letter so M would be correct for December.

:smile1:

DemRam's correct, Coach was supposed to skip the "I" because it's too easy to mistake it for a "one". Most car manufacturers do the same with their serial numbers. "M" is the valid code for December.

And although most bags I've seen with I's or N's as the month code have been fake, there have been a very small handful that seem to be genuine, especially from brand-new plants or plants where reading memos from Coach wasn't high on their list of priorities, like Italy. But any bag with an unusual month code should be posted here for verification. And there are a LOT of fakes with serial numbers beginning with the letter "U" - those are ALWAYS fake.

The bag is authentic, the seller donates 100% to a charity,
To be safe, just make sure to pay with a credit card if you win it.

What bothers me about those listings is that they don't seem to be following Ebay's rules about "donation-type" listings. If they're not registered with MissionFish or Giving Works they need to follow specific rules which include posting a copy of the Consent letter from the charity in their listings:

Guidelines for charity listings (without eBay Giving Works)
Sellers may only list items for charity without eBay Giving Works if they:

  • Are soliciting on behalf of recognized tax-deductible charitable organizations (for example, 501(c)(3) status or equivalent with the IRS).
  • Receive advance written consent for the solicitation, on the organization's letterhead, from the charity that will benefit.
To verify you've received permission, you need to include a scanned copy of the written consent in your listing. The letter must be on the charity’s letterhead, signed by one of the organization's officers, and include the charity’s tax-deductibility status. It must also include your name or eBay user ID, dates of event/listings, and the donation amount (percentage of the final sale price) you'll be donating if your item sells. In your listing, the consent letter must appear as a picture rather than a link and appear large enough to be easily read.

It's probably too late with the Coach, but I'd definitely contact either Ebay or the charitable organization given in the listing to be sure it's legitimate. Ebay is supposed to verify all charitable-type auctions either through MissionFish or Giving Works according to the rules listed in the various Rules and Help pages under "charity" and put a special graphic in the listings to prove that they're checked and verified as legitimate;
http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?HelpSearchNextGen&action=0&searchString=charity

(And BTW, plenty of designer bags listed in charity auctions turn out to be fake)

Hi,

I can't authenticate the bag because I don't know newer Coach, but please check that 1st sellers feedback on Toolhaus.

I put the link below. She really has lots of unhappy buyers.

mbs235, we ALWAYS ask to see a creed photo and except for small items like some Pouches, wristlets, Swingpacks, etc that often don't come with a creed, we don't recommend bidding on any auctions where the seller doesn't show a clear close-up of the creed. There's a lot more information on that stamp than just the serial number.

Of course, just because a bag has a creed doesn't prove in any way that it's genuine, but it makes it a bit easier for an expert to try and determine authenticity. That's not something a Coach "beginner" should try to do themselves. And if a seller can't or won't supply a good photo of the creed, find another seller.

Like DemRam said, the first seller's Feedback is TERRIBLE - I wouldn't buy from her if she had the only bag on Ebay. The listing from the second seller looks ok.

Hi, just a question, are the C-Cs logo always in the same exact position for the same model in mass production?

Is there any other way to tell the fake and the authentic ones for the french purses? Please advise, thanks!

I bought the one from the second seller, thanks for your help. I've never bought a Coach bag from ebay before, this is fun. I really wanted a white leather Coach bag to take on vacation, I think I'll love this one.

No, only some of the time. It's always best to let an expert in that particular style of bag take a look.

And there's no easy way to tell fakes from real in ANY bag, wallet or accessory. Spend some time readfing the posts, especially the ones from the last year or so, in the Answers To Authenticity Questions thread and you'll get some good ideas. But the only way to tell real from fake is to have an expert take a look, and even the experts can't always be sure. There are no simple "Rules" that prove anything is genuine, although there are a hundred possible mistakes that can prove a "Coach" is fake.

There are a few suggestions about inexperienced buyers and buying wallets that I posted at the Questions thread - start here and keep reading all the way to the end of the thread:

Wow, I've been looking at the some of the posts here and at the first thread dating back to 2005-2006 till my eyes are very blur and sleepy. It would take some time for me to be able to spot some differences between the real thing & the highly copied one except for the very telling fakes that stand out.

Saw several wallets online but not from ebay. Can confirm whether its authentic or not?

Got this as a Christmas gift from a friend of mine. It was in a Coach box with tissue paper, the works. The serial number can't be seen in the pics, it is: No. K0768-41115.

OK, let me have it. Thanks.

Hmmmm,

I just found an item on ebay that has the same serial number as the one I just posted!? Does that automatically mean both mine and it are fakes?

They are even the same purse, just slightly different colors??

YIKES!?

Since 1994, any bag of the same style made in the same month at the same plant will have the same serial number. HUNDREDS of bags can have the same number.
