I saw a bag like this (purple lining and all) in person at both Macy's and Dillards, but my boutique says they never received this bag in black sig. Is it a dept. store exclusive?

Authentic. This is a reputable seller. Yes, this was a department store exclusive color. :yes:

That's impossible since Coach didn't make the Signature C bags that far back.

Hi Starry. I have a question on this one because I am confused. The info thread you posted said that the 4th digit wasn't used in the first part of the serial number until 2004.
This bag actually is from 2004. I found it in the archives for Oct 12, 2004 here:

Is it at all possible that the creed looks wonky because the bag was made *before* Coach introduced the 4th digit?

I found another 1443 on eBay (is this fake as well then?):

Hi selketkrb! Yes, the bag is from 2004, but the creed on that one is wrong. [letter]4[letter] indicates a bag made in 1994. [letter]04[letter] would indicate a bag made in 2004. There are other problems with that bag. If you compare the signature pattern of the fake bag in the link the OP posted to the picture of the bag on the drilldown, you can see that the spacing of the C's on the fake bag is off. The shape of the C's have that "Goach" look to them. There is too much space between the C's. Also the turnlock is the wrong shape.

Style 1443 is a very commonly faked style and there are many fakes of this style on ebay. The bag in the auction above is also fake. Look closely at the dust bag in the auction. It's a fake dust bag. The silky brown dust bags came out in Fall 2007 and would not have come with a bag made in 2004. Also look at the lettering on the word Coach on the dust bag and if you have one of the silky dustbags, look at the spacing of the letters on yours. See the difference? ;)

I agree with you - serial numbers can be confusing!

Thanks for your response. I just compared the eBay one to the drilldown and noticed more things. The straps are too long and go down past the suede front patch, on the drilldown the straps are short and about 1/2" above that bottom edge. Also the drilldown pic shows a metal hangtag and the auction one is pink leather.

Scary!!! :shocked:

One thing I did want to note though was about the dustbag and how you said that dustbag wouldn't have come with that bag. I don't know about anyone else but my dustbags do tend to get all jumbled up and don't always stay with the handbag they were purchased with. Sometimes I end up with a pile of them (when doing collection pics and such) and I sort them by size and just re-bag my lovlies with a bag the appropriate size.
Am I just nuts and everyone else is organized and keeps the exact dust bag with the handbag it came with?
Now that I think about it, it's such a paradox that I do this, because I am usually so anal and organized. :p
