Hi authenticators,

I just won this specimen off of EBay—could I please get your opinion(s)? Any chance this was manufactured in the 1970s at the original Coach NYC factory?

Item: Classic pouch (?), possibly 1970s?
Listing number: 203890162596
Seller and site where listed: monster-deals2 / EBay
Link:. https://www.ebay.com/itm/203890162596

As always, thank you for your expertise.
It's genuine, but if it's from the 1970s it would have to be the very late '70s.

There should be a copyright date on at least one of those booklets or inserts. The bag would have to at least be more recent than the copyright date which should be close to the printing date.

You'll have to wait for @whateve for any identification.
As Hyacinth said, there is a 4 digit code on the catalog on the left side of the picture of the paperwork. The first 2 digits are the year, the second two are the month. The bag will have been made after that. It appears to be a classic pouch but there are no measurements in the listing to be sure. It was made at the original NYC factory. Any bag with a NYC creed was made there.

You always find the best things...*sigh*
It is in rough shape and mildew stinky. It was in a large bin at a regional Goodwill Outlet. I think all the local GWs send stuff that doesn’t sell there to die. Going to quarantine it in a vanilla scented trash bag. And just use every conditioner I have on it!
:hugs: But it was cheap. Cup of take out coffee cheap.
Genuine Large Daypack from 2001
Thank you!

Sorry, the details of the serial number don't maych the country stamped on the creed patch, and the lining isn't correct.

That's also a very good observation about the leather being too soft. The Lexington bags had the same thickness of glove-tanned cowhide as most of the other vintage lines. The bag in your photos looks "squishy" and I've had several Lexington styles and I would never describe the leather as soft or squishy compared to other Coaches. We've seen quite a few fake of Lexington bags with the same mistakes on the creed stamp.

I would also have liked to see a large, clear, readable ohoto of the part of the flap's magnetic snap holding the flap closed so that we can easily read all the words, numbers and letters stamped on it.

ETA - Here's a stamped creed and serial number from a genuine Lexington style made in December 1997 in Coach's "E" plant which always indicated Italy, compared to the fake. The stamping is very close but these's one noticeable difference for someone who knows what to look for.

REAL "E=Italy" creed:

FAKE 1997 "E-United States" creed indicating exactly the same plant, month and year:

. Morning, I read the guide yesterday that you wrote and knew immediately there was a problem. This purse was made in 98 yet it has a 7, the country E being Italy and yet it indicates US. Yes it’s way too soft. I’m learning a lot through this forum and what you write. Thank goodness it wasn’t much. I’m attaching a pic of the snap. Thank you for educating me day after day. Have a wonderful weekend Hyacinth!

That’s the best kind of find! You saved it from the landfill.

@DaisyDD

The magnetic snap is wrong too. There are at least 5 or 6 always-fake stampings we've found that are only used by Fakes manufacturers, and anything with the word "MAGNET" on it is one of the fakes.

Be careful with dates though! The catalogs are showing this style as "NEW" as early as the 1998 New Collections (which apparently came between the 1998 Spring Preview and the 1998 Spring catalogs) and the Spring 1998 catalogs, which means that it could have been made in December 1997 and in fact, many of the genuine Lexington examples in my files have December 1997 serial numbers with M7E- prefixes (but they all have Italy as the place of origin). And even in the 1990s, the original production run often was followed several years later by limited "catalog only" re-releases, so while a date that seems a bit "off" can raise a warning flag, it can almost never prove something's fake unless the difference in dates doesn't fit what we know about confirmed production dates.

hello! i recently got 4 vintage coach bags at a goodwill and was considering selling 1- 2 of them but i don’t want to list anything that’s fake. i would greatly appreciate any guidance! this is also my first post here so i apologize if i’m making any mistakes.
one of the bags is a red sonoma #4919. It measures around 6.5" tall and 9.5" wide. the creed seems to match other bags that i can find listed for sale but the box around the creed is darker and i didn’t see that on any of the other bags in this color with this number. the magnetic clasp on the top flap has some writing/numbering and i saw that on some but not all of the similar bags i could find. it’s also missing the leather hang tag. thank you so much for your time!

It's authentic, made in 1996. It's called Sonoma Natural Grain Small Flap Bag.

And that's one of the reasons why we require seller IDs in authentication and Hall of shame posts. We can look up the history of sellers and potential buyers can search sellers' histories too and make a decision whether that's someone they want to do business with.
Good I’m glad you put him up on the shame thread! I’ll have to start following that one more closely.

Hi! I just purchased this Willis on ebay and would like to know if it is indeed authentic before purchasing. Please let me know. Thank you!!

FOR ITEMS LISTED ONLINE:
Item: Brown Willis bag
Listing number: 154927855960
Seller and site where listed: goodwillkc on ebay
Link: link to listing on ebay
Comments: Concerned because most of their coach bags have authentication certificates and this one did not (and frankly it was much cheaper than I have seen most Willis bags -- I was surprised I won the auction. I compared to other authentic bags and it seemed good to me, but would love to double check here).
