White is really hard to rehab. They usually look better in photographs than they do in real life. White and light colors weren't dyed through the leather like other colors. They seem more like the color was painted on. The color doesn't come back with a rehab. Any kind of scrubbing will remove more color. You can bleach stains but it has no effect on wear. It is very possible that shoe polish was used on it at some point. I don't think you could improve it much with rehabbing unless you are willing to dye or paint it. It is difficult to get dye to adhere because of the painted coating on white bags. You have to make sure that coating is worn down enough to get the dye to work. Painting might work better.
Thank you so much for your input. I keep reading in other threads to not use shoe polish, which is what most people would gravitate towards, I don’t like the finish shoe polish gives, is there a different reason why it’s not recommended?

Yes, I believe it blocks the pores of the leather. You can't moisturize through shoe polish so the leather would dry out and eventually fall apart.

1- genuine Companion Bag style 9300 but NOT from the 1970s since the style wasn't even introduced until 1987 and this one is actually a year or two newer than that, 1988-1989.

2- genuine and made between 1990 and 1993

Four years at a high school where uniforms and "saddle shoes" were required confirms the truth about white shoe polish drying out the leather. The Good Sisters made sure our uniforms and shoes were always neat and clean and that usually meant a few swipes with white shoe polish every week or two. By the end of the year the white part of the leather was as dry as a bone and cracking across the top of the shoes. Nasty stuff.

For those of you not familiar with saddle shoes, think of them as combat boots for girls.
I tried to find an accurate photo but found almost nothing that showed the true horror of the nun-approved "clunkies" we were required to wear, this is as close as I could get:

Comments: Would a knowledgable Authenticator look at this bag for me? It’s pretty but the Creed tag looks sketchy to me!
I did not see a response to my request quoted below. I think the Creed tag and the word Coach above it looks wrong. (Photo attached) She does name the store where she bought it which sounds credible. It’s a good deal, with a wallet, and I’d like to be sure of it before I pull the trigger. THANK YOU for this wonderful service. I love reading this thread. View attachment 5329335

Giving this a BUMP.

I didn't go to Catholic school but my mom made me wear those kind of shoes, except mine were a different color. I was envious of the people who got the white and black ones. I had to wear the ones that were two shades of tan.
