This is the first bag I bought which started my obsession. I paid $3 at a thrift store. I love it! It measures 11 1/2" wide x 8" tall. The two sides are identical like the first photo. I am hoping to any info about it. Thanks!

Was the strap shortened?

My bag had a strap drop of 20" but that strap appears to be shorter.

I
Not that I am aware of? The drop on this in the longest position on the buckle is 11"
Coach ad says the strap length is 44 inches, which is consistent with a 20 inch drop. Yours looks finished right so I'm surprised it isn't the correct length.

I clearly have no idea how to respond to messages! EEEK, not Week lol. Could someone explain how to comment on a reply to a post? Should I be using the quote feature???
To reply to one post, click the reply button at the bottom of the post, and a reply box will appear with the post quoted inside. If you want to respond to more than one post at a time, click the +quote on each of those posts, then go to the bottom of the page where the reply box is, and click on "insert quotes." Make sure you confirm, then those quoted posts will appear in the reply box.

You truly are the best! After closer inspection, I can see that the strap WAS shortened! On one side the thread is the slightest bit off color from the rest. Only slightly upsetting. I am a purist and obsess over details!

Watch out for shortened straps!

You're lucky, it looks like it was done by a professional. There are a lot of vintage Coach bags with shortened straps out there, and you really have to look carefully at the photos and read the measurements with that in mind.

The style in the 60's through the 1980s was for the long strap drops, and the bags usually hung straight from the shoulder down to the waist or hip area and were referred to simply as as shoulder bags. Then the styles changed, straps got a lot shorter, and the bags were worn higher and closer to the armpit and tucked against the body, what I always think of as "pit bags". Some owners just added a second set of buckle holes to their bags to shorten the strap, but too many just butchered the strap by lopping off one end or the other and/or re-sewing the strap end.

You always need to know how long the original strap was supposed to be and look for changes. Coach started shortening the strap lengths or bringing out new shorter styles in the 1990s, but way too many people tried to do their own strap modifications and weren't very successful at it. They were still called shoulder bags but now that term had a very different meaning.

That's another good reason for always having Coach items that you're thinking of buying authenticated here first. We may not always catch those unwanted or badly-done modifications, but at least we're aware of them and usually have photos and measurements in our files of what the original strap lengths were and what they were supposed to look like.

Not buying because the bag looks almost dead but the lining has me baffled.. Creed patch looks good to me but I'm not an expert.
Wrong lining, wrong style number and zipper pull. Doesn't match other E plant Sonoma creeds. There are just too many things wrong. I think it has to be fake.

Interesting because the creed on the bag in question from hllcrlwrld has the identical wrong lining and same font but different s/n as a comp/pair of comps in my records, both of which were determined to be fake. Also, this lining (when used in genuine bags) has the grain going in the opposite (horizontal) direction whereas on the fakes, it's vertical.

The cartouche is different. Funny how a lot of these fakes cut the creed too big.
