I’ve purchased the bag, just want to double check before I work on it. Thanks in advance!

It's authentic. It was called a Metropolis flap.

BUSYKITTY, I'm not sure where you found the name "Pilots Bag", as Whateve said, "MetropolisFlap" is the correct name. That style was given that incorrect name a while back by a careless or clueless Ebay seller who calls himself an expert but who didn't even know what a "pilot bag" actually was even though Coach has been using the term for at least 20 years. I seem to remember a discussion about it a few months ago either here or at Ebay's forum.

A Coach "pilot bag" (small "p") is simply an early or pre-production item that's given a very limited release so Coach can judge potential buyers' response to the item and see if they need to make any changes or if they should approve it for full production. Pilot bags from the last 20 years or so will usually have the letter "P" at the end of the stamped serial number, but pilot bags older than that might not have any identifying letter.

Coach has never named any handbag style as a " Pilot Bag " or " Pilots Bag ". The name is a good example of how one person's careless and blindly-copied mistake can spread throughout one or more selling sites and from there through the entire Coach-loving internet. Too many people who think of themselves as "experts" don't ever bother to do a little simple research to find out if some bit of information they found online is actually correct. Once they use it in a post or listing and other people see it and decide to use it, the damage is done.

Thank you for sharing the info and photos. Interesting to see Gloria in a catalog shoot.

Back then, Coach management actually respected people who had made an impact in their chosen fields and saw the value of featuring them in their catalogs, unlike the last 15 years or so when the models seem to have been chosen based on how young they looked and how skinny they were or how well they could make Big Pouty Lips. (Obviously, I'm much more in awe of the first group than the second, and GS has always been a heroine of mine). The same catalog also featued Alek Wek, a British model born in South Sudan who was one of the first black supermodels, novelist John Irving, and on the cover, "Moose", who played Eddie on "Frasier".

The Spring 1998 book included jazz singer Cassandra Wilson, actress Milla Jovovich, screenwriter and TV news reporter Serena Altschul, businessman Doug Lloyd, model and athlete Neil Fenton, and ABT ballerina Julie Kent.

A pretty impressive list for a handbag catalog! I think the Cahns would have approved.

It's authentic. I don't have a catalog photo. All I have is a possible name, Greenwich twill tote or shopper. I don't think the color from the fabric will run but I'm not sure about the leather trim. It could stain the lining.

That certainly is a very impressive catalog guest group! Thanks so much for sharing that bit of nostalgia.

Comments: I'm still learning about Coach creeds. Was this made in 1995? Also, it looks to be in pretty good condition to me, but I'm also somewhat new to vintage Coach. Thoughts on the condition and if it would rehab well?

As I said in that thread, it is authentic. It was made in 1995. It seems to be in amazing condition. I doubt it would need much work at all. Maybe just a coat of conditioner. I wouldn't dunk unless it smells or isn't as nice as it appears.

This looks suspicious to me. Doesn't it supposed to have a floral bow print inside?

I'm not comfortable enough with it to authenticate but I am uncomfortable enough to recommend against buying.

I saw one posted here on the kisslock club thread with the floral bow lining but can't find any others with that lining.

The only 21814 bags I've found are on Asian sites and they have solid lining as does the listing in question. Most of the sites on which I found the bag are those that I've seen close fakes and can't recommend them.
