Item: Red hobo legacy (or so I think)
Listing number: reference number LU10324529721
Seller: I just started looking at this site and all I can find is 'vetted seller'.
Link: https://www.1stdibs.com/fashion/han...h-tomato-red-shoulder-bag-1970s/id-v_4529721/
Comments: Is this really a Bonnie Cashin design from the 1970s? It looks more recent. Way out of my price range!!!!

It's authentic but not even close to 1970s!

The bag isn't even vintage yet; it was made in 2002.

That's a GLARING example of not just SNAD - Significantly Not As Described - but it's an outright damned LIE It's bad enough when sellers use Cashin's name in listings for actual vintage if non-Cashin bags, but this is just inexcusable. I wouldn't buy anything from that seller OR that website. Not only was the bag made 34 years after Cashin stopped designing for Coach, not only did she never design a style like that AFAIK, but by 2002 which is the date code in the serial number, Bonnie Cashin had been DEAD for 2 years.

Don't ever depend on sellers' descriptions to be accurate unless you know the seller is a trusted tPF member. Even if they claim to be one, don't depend on their word alone.

I can't see any price in the listing. What is she asking for that?

Thanks Hyacinth! I thought the bag looked more recent but needed the experts' opinions and you and BeenBurned confirmed what I suspected. I was unfamiliar with this site and it looked like estate sales. I guess their vetting criteria is quite dodgy. :hrmm:
So, this seller must know who is Bonnie Cashin enough to name drop and hope nobody notices. Oh! I forgot to add the seller is asking 425$US.

OH MY SAINTED AUNT BESSIE. Let's hope no one buys it. That's probably 10 times what it's actually worth.

"Vetted seller" my butt.

DO NOT BUY FROM WEBSITE " 1STDIBS.COM "
And for the record, this "vetted, professional seller" who "normally" responds within 2 hours to messages hasn't replied in 8 hours.

The pictures aren't really clear or large enough but I think it's okay.

Authentic. I'm not able to see the year code well enough to see when it was made.

The seller copied the style number incorrectly. It's 9983.

Hi BeenBurned,
A while back I had a vintage Regina authenticated on this thread. You weren't able to read the year code clearly and I also didn't think much of it. Until I looked into deciphering year codes lately and realized the first alphabet is the month of the year. Mine reads 'M6I-9983' which technically means the 13th month of the year 1996. Is this possibly a fake then?
I've attached a photo for your review.

No, if you read the Salearea Coach Guides in the thread that's Pinned at the top of each Coach Shopping Forum page, and many things we talk about in these forums will make a LOT more sense if you do, the six-part Guide has 2 sections that explain Coach's serial numbers and creeds.

The "i" month code usually wasn't used because it was too easy to mistake it for the number 1. (I worked in the automobile business for more than 20 years and car manufacturers usually do the same thing with VINs (Vehicle Identification Numbers). Your bag is a genuine Coach.

Hi Hyacinth,
I think I did read the Sale Area guide that was originally posted by BeenBurned, but I must have totally spaced out there after reading some random guide on the internet. Sorry about that! I'm completely embarrassed. But thank you for clarifying :flowers:

I hope everyone is having a great weekend! When it's convenient, I would appreciate your thoughts on the following three purses I've picked up at Goodwill over the last few weeks. TIA!
