Please post authenticity questions related to COACH in this thread. No PMs please.

Please follow the following requests:
  • Before you submit a request for authentication, please search this thread to make sure that the item has not previously been authenticated by searching the seller ID and/or item number. This is not a thread to ask general questions about COACH, please refer to our main Coach forum for such information.
  • Note that authenticators have the right to refuse any requests. This is a free service, but it is imperative that you help our authenticators by using the following format:

BASIC PICTURES REQUIRED (but more may be requested): If necessary pictures are in the listing, it's not necessary to upload and duplicate them.
  • Front of item

  • Full clear and legible creed text and serial number
  • Made in tags (when available)
  • Measurements
  • For bags with turnlock closures, show pictures of back of female side of turnlock
  • For bags with magnetic snaps, show pictures of the male part of the snap so that the numbers and letters on it can be read
  • If applicable, search interior of bag and/or pockets for small white tag with production information and include a picture of that.

I'm thinking fake too. It's really hard to read the serial number, but it looks like a *6B- prefix. So far everything in my files with the same prefix in a smooth leather bag from that plant and year with exactly the same Coach logo font and creed spacing has been fake. The hangtag is definitely fake and although hangtags usually aren't used for authenticating, when the bag is an unusual color and the tag matches it exactly, the evidence is a little stronger that it might be the tag that originally came with the bag. There are problems with the piping and the strap mounting that worry me too.


ETA - "According to the seller it says H8F 9930"
If it's "F", that's another BIG problem, the only genuine "F" codes in my files are in briefcases with a unique font combination. There's also another fake 9930 with an H8F- prefix and the exact same creed spacing and Coach logo font as the one in the poster's photos.

Comments: I see the creed on this one speaks of the back in present tense ("it IS made" vs. below where it reads "it WAS handcrafted). Was this just a change between 95 and 96? Just trying to learn what I can for future reference.

Hi All. I am certainly no expert, but I recently found what I thought to be was an authentic vintage Coach ... did some research and listed on ebay. I didn't overprice it and it sat there for about 3 weeks without any activity. Then I get the message it was counterfeit and my account was suspended for a week. The bag number is H8H-4156 ... black leather messenger bag with belt buckle ... buckle is brass. stitching is tight and there are no discernible irregularities. Why is this fake? Please tell me. Thank you.

Please read Post number One in this thread. We need photos of the item or a working link to the listing as long as it includes photos of the critcal areas of the bag. Nothing can be authenticated from just a serial number although a number CAN prove that a bag is fake although we still need to see photos. If there's anything stamped on the buckle we need to see that too.

Just so you can prepare yourself, I have a known fake in my photo files with exactly the same serial number. AND another with the same number that's not even a style 4156.

The entire creed wording in bags made at the C plant changed during that time period. Compare both creeds all the way through. Read the thread about the Salearea Guides Pinned to the top of every index page in the Coach Shopping forum for more information on Coach creeds.

Both bags are genuine.
