Item: “COACH Emily Flap Bag Periwinkle Blue USA”
Listing number: 66247332
Seller: Goodwill of Central & Southern Indiana
Link: https://www.shopgoodwill.com/Item/66247332

Comments:
  • Looks like an Emmie Flap from 1997 in Periwinkle.
  • I'm uploading a few additional photos that aren't included in the listing.
  • There was only one thing that seemed a bit unusual to me. It looks like the chain for the hangtag is nickel-colored, while the hardware on the bag is brass. I figure the original, brass chain was likely just swapped for the nickel chain by someone in the last 22 years. (That's assuming that the chain is actually nickel-colored; it could just look nickel-coloured in the photo.)

It's fine. I used to have this bag. It holds a surprising amount. The chain was probably swapped out.

The turnlocks in the photo were used on BRIEFCASES starting in 1996. The oval turnlocks and all the warnings about indentations on the back apply ONLY to handbags. I hope we've made that clear in most of our posts. If you look carefully at those reference photos you'll see that the oval turnlocks are only on handbags or on briefcases made before 1996. The rounded-off rectangular turnlocks with indents on the back are GENUINE Coach turnlocks on their 1996 and newer briefcases.

ETA - For example - catalog pages for the Fall 1995 and Spring 1996 Beekman Brief, style 5266. Notice the turnlocks.

There CAN be a problem with replacement turnlocks bought from 3rd party sellers, we've seen a few sold as non-Coach replacements that DO have indented turnlock plates. That's why using the turnlock alone should never be considered proof that a bag is fake.

When we specify one style of design family in a post, such as "handbags with indented turnlocks might be counterfeit" or that "Coach has never made handbags or purses in Korea", there's a reason why we're so specific. If we say handbags, we mean handbags ONLY. Just because indented turnlocks on handbags are a problem that doesn't mean that briefcases, which the Essex Case is, would have the same problem. They don't, at least not when they have that exact turnlock that's in your photos.

And while we've never seen any evidence so far that Coach has never made handbags (or wallets or briefcases) in Korea, we HAVE seen good evidence that they very briefly made a few clothing items, luggage pieces and even keychains there. Coach's relationship with Korean manufacturers and the ROK legal system has NOT been a happy one.

The Salearea Guides are the same, when I'm specific about a subject or "rule" there's a reason for it. I try to choose my words very carefully which is one reason why the Guides should be read more than once and attention paid to my exact words. A single read-through isn't enough.
Thanks, Hyacinth. I'm new to owning anything with this turnlock style. I thought it was weird that I was seeing pictures of the same bag with a different turnlock. Now I know why :)

Item:
Coach Berry Pink Archive Limited Edition Purse
Listing number:
Seller: Goodwill Online
Link: https://www.shopgoodwill.com/Item/66842365
Comments:

The listing is unusually bad even for Goodwill. No readable creed photo, The style number is barely legible but not the rest of the creed, and the description says
"CONDITION: Pre-owned
Overall wrinkling, fraying, stretching, scuffing, and some slight stitch seperation at seams, Zipper is stiff....
Sold AS IS"

But no photos of the damaged areas. It's hard to believe they're talking about the same bag. It's genuine but if the description is accurate the buyer needs to accept that it's "as is" and cross their fingers on the VERY slim hope that maybe the description was copied from another listing since the only zipper on or in the bag is the one on the inside pocket, and shown as only zipped part of the way across.

It's a 12797 Bleecker Street Suede Haversack.
