I've had many coach bags over the years but I've never seen a creed so faded. The only thing Coach could tell me over phone was that darker creeds can fade. The pattern looks right, stitching is uniform, clips are branded ....but this has me nervous so I wanted to ask your opinions. I appreciate your help.

If you brush the surface of the creed patch with a light-colored, powdered eyeshadow sometimes it makes the printing legible.

Thank you! Totally wouldn't have thought of that! Fantastic trick! I just never saw one so faded, it just makes me nervous but in all other aspects it looks and feels like the real deal, I just don't want to post it anywhere unless i'm 100%.

The bag looks fine.

I wonder whether someone tried to wash the lining and caused the leather creed to "swell."

Thank you...I just didn't know if it was typical. I've seen Poppy collection bags with what looks like all the dye rubbed off the creed, many of them so I didn't know if that was something like that. I can barely see or feel the writing.

Did the authenticator who said that mean ANY style bag from plant 76, or specifically a Penny? Because 76 WAS a valid China plant code during the exact time indicated in that bag's serial number.

The only concern I would have is that most of the bags with a 76 plant code from 2012 seem to be outlet styles but there are a few FP bags too.

As for the Cobalt color, there's a single pic of a Cobalt one in my files that I saved in June 2012 so I don't think the color is a problem. No creed pic though.

But I'm not expert enough on styles made after about 2010 to give a full authentication.

Thanks for the response! Sorry, somehow this post got super long but:

It was my understanding the plant 76 was just in reference to the Penny. Here's a screen shot of the creeds comparison in that TPF post:

IMG_0946.PNG

Every time I've seen plant 76 for this style number it always has the "handcrafted in China from the finest materials" part in the creed, but other plant numbers don't have this (from what I can find on online listings). I guess this could be consistent with plant 76 corresponding to MFF bags in China?

I saw another green Penny from plant 76 online and it had a flaw in the creed stitching in the lower right, which seemed strange to me but not unfeasible that a batch of bags could have been messed up. The hangtag also seemed like the Coach lettering/box wasn't pressed uniformly or symmetrically. These two things and the different serial number lettering seemed to confirm the suspicion about plant 76 Penny's.

IMG_0949.PNG

There were creeds I found that seem to match the authentic plant 71 photo posted on TPF and also had a stitching flaw:
IMG_0950.PNG
IMG_9271.PNG

It seems that the plants used for the legacy Penny also vary in whether they use an underline (all long) or a period after the No in the serial number.

The only plant number that seems consistent is plant 69 for the Penny. I've only seen this font style and with "No." for plant 69 so far, which I *think* someone authenticated here:

IMG_9270.PNG

It seems to me that the Cobalt bag creed in the Poshmark listing (photo below) matches the mint green creed that was deemed questionable by an authenticator, but the seller hasn't listed a hang tag photo yet. I've only seen one other Cobalt Penny listed and that one seemed too risky as it had a 76 plant code and missing tassels and hangtag.

IMG_0947.PNG

I guess another possibility is that the plant 76 MFF bags are just lower quality control? I have to admit the chain crossbody bags I bought from FOS in February I would have thought were fake if I hadn't bought them directly from Coach factory! The edge coating was a mess and as they are considered wallets they did not come with hangtags, creeds, or serial numbers (yet my matching mini skinny wallet has a serial number).

@Hyacinth - I see what you mean about Coach's only consistency being their inconsistency!

All of these creed variations are driving me crazy, so a big thank you to you authenticators for figuring all this out for us!

Hello all,

I've always loved Coach but this is the first I've ever bought. I was having a good time on poshmark and ended up ordering this bag right here without even questioning its authenticity. The lining seems to be nice quality. The stitching is great. The zipper is YKK. However there is no creed, no leather hangtags, and no other coach markings besides the brass hangtag. From what I've seen in other forums, it is part of the Legacy 2012 collection. But I don't see this particular bag when I try to research this collection. Can someone help me?

I'm not an authenticator so wait for the experts, but it looks fine to me. Small bags may not have a creed patch inside but there is usually a small fabric tag (often sewn inside of a pocket or along a seam) that says "Coach" and "Made in _________" and the style number (48042). Your bag has a brass metal hangtag which is correct for that style.

I pulled the images below off the Internet Wayback Machine from August 2012 and my (non-expert) opinion is that you've got a beautiful Coach bag, a Legacy Haircalf Pinnacle Large Flap Clutch in Camel with Brass Hardware, new with tags, congratulations!

Wow! I am so relieved that you say that. Thank you so much for doing that research and letting me know what you think!

Edit: Oh, and there is a tag inside, but all it says is made in China. No mention of coach. Does that change anything?
It looks authentic to me. The inside tag usually doesn't say Coach.

It's authentic.

The bag you asked about is the Legacy American Icons Pocket Tote style number 19982; released in Fall 2012 for $598.

Here are some pics of the American Icon Pocket Totes and you can find more info at the link below:

Wow, seeing all those gorgeous Legacy bags again has reminded me to get my colorblock Rory out soon, because it's a great bag for Fall!

Thanks! I am only attracted to classic coach bags, pre-2000 or so, with the exception of that 2012 Legacy collection. So far, any newer bag that caught my eye turns out to be one of the 2012 ones.
