I'm new so I don't know if I'm posting this in the right place, so if it's not right, I'm sorry! Can someone help me with authenticating this bag? I just got today, ordered it off of ebay. Once I got it, I can't find the creed No. anywhere! It's a brown, bucket style bag, but the top is weird, not like one I've seen before. The seller is gusabbie, here is the link to the sold bag...http://www.ebay.com/itm/172432886172?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT - - The creed # is H8P-4148. Any help would be much appreciated!! It says on the creed it was made in Costa Rica?? Thank you!

Welcome to the purse forum! You are in the right place. There is no need to post photos if we can view them in the online listing.

It's authentic. It was made in 1998. Coach used to make many bags in Costa Rica. It was one of the first plants outside of the US. If you want to search by number, only use the numbers after the dash, which is the style number: 4148. Here are a bunch of them on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/sch/Clothing-Shoes-Accessories/11450/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=coach+4148

All are fine.

I have one more vintage Coach that belongs to me. I'm especially wondering about the holes on either side and if they're for a strap or hangtags. 11 x 7 x 2.5. Thanks very much!
Sorry for the late addition, but here 's a link to a previous posting (#14400 on page 960) that shows two styles of straps that were used on bags from this era that employed the gommet hole strap attachment (there were several styles that did):

Comments: Got too excited when I received the additional pictures I requested and did a BIN. Serial number starts with an "N" and the word "which" looks like "wxich." I've requested additional clearer pictures of the creed from seller.

Thanks as always!

The pictures are pretty small. I think it is authentic and the "which" will look correct once you see it up close. The N month code is an error we've seen often in Italian creeds. I would have been excited too! Chapin bag and wallet with original dustbags, wow!

Thanks, I realized the "N" month code could be an error, but the "which" had me going...:-s

"Carriage", actually. I think buggies are usually open and only use one horse and seem to have been more common in the US, carriages can be open(?) or closed and will usually have 2 horses - England's rainy weather almost demands a top that can be raised and secured against the weather, that's one of the privileges of the up-and-coming middle and upper classes. Or at least that's the impression I've gotten from Jane Austen films.

ETA - And naturally, several websites I've just read say something completely different - that a Carriage is any kind of horse-drawn passenger vehicle. So call it whatever you want.

And the Carriage emblem has been on or in many Coach bags and other items for maybe 6 years now. You also have to look at the leather used for that patch. Highly textured leather like that is almost impossible to stamp and get as smooth an impression as you could on smooth leather

I've always thought of it as a coach, for some reason. ;)
