You asked "I think I read that Coach didn't use a flat backplate on the turnlock "female" side. This 5274 uses a flat back. Is my memory wrong?"

Yes.

There's nothing wrong with the turnlock in the photos. Turnlocks on briefcases had flat back plates with no indentations UNTIL 1996 when briefcases got their own unique turnlocks. Maybe someone might mean a flat back oval turnlock plate as opposed to a fake or replacement plate with indentations, which Coach never used. "Flat" is probably a poor choice of words. "Smooth" or "oval" are more accurate and less confusing.

Maybe I finally AM going blind, but I don't see a "larger, square 'female' part for turnlocks on briefs" in the post or listing that you're referring to. And yes, 1996 was the first year for the squared-off turnlock plate, but the Essex in question has the original style oval turnlock. So what am I missing?

You aren't blind - Hward17's comment just got embedded/hidden in my post during quoting so it isn't obvious. The comment on my post was:

That's why I replied the square turnlocks didn't come out until 1996. My Essex still has the old flat plate back b/c it's pre-1994.
And of course I learned the square turnlock date from you!

ETA: now I know what it feels like to be sniped by Hyacinth!

AAAAAAAAAAH. "I see" said the blind man. That's why the confusion.

The Quote feature sometimes seems to have a mind of its own.

Yikes, looks like I am creating chaos, I apologize, and to be honest, I haven't a clue what the +QUOTE does in a post.

You use the Reply button when you're only responding to and quoting a single post.

The + Quote will respond to and quote more than one post. It's not as easy as it looks though, you have to click on the + Quote button in every post you want to quote, then click on Insert Quotes. Then click on Insert Quotes (or whatever it says) in the next box that comes up too.

The Quotes and File and Photo uploads features in this new forum aren't nearly as intuitive as they were in the old one. It gets even us old-timers messed up a lot.

Hi all-- Could someone please authenticate these several items for me? All from my local thrift sojourns.

First is an Optic Signature Print wristlet (that I have already cleaned and looks great!)

This is some sort of Swingpack but I'd appreciate any info. It has the creed patch but no numbers.
7 1/2" long x 8 1/2" tall
IMG_2602.jpegIMG_2603.jpeg
IMG_2604.jpeg

This should be a Coach Chelsea Hobo style 6003
10 1/2" long x 9 1/2" tall x 4" deep

They all look fine. It may take a while to find a name for the Swingpack, if it's even in my files. The Sig Optic Wristlet might be either style 2388 or 3425.
