I have been lurking here and as a result I have successfully bathed and conditioned two purses! First and foremost, thank you so much to the wonderful people on this forum who are so generous with their assistance and knowledge!

I am now posting because after putting myself through a crash Coach course, I'm concerned that the purses I'm working with, both labeled as being made in the U.S., may not be authentic. If they aren't, I won't be happy about it, but if it helps me learn more about authentication it will have been worth it.

The stitching on the creed seems like it isn't straight enough on the "Sonoma Bag," and on the "City Bag," it seems like the line under the "o" in "No" is too close to the bottom of the N. Also, on the "City Bag," there is a gap on the square brass hardware that attaches the strap to the bag. Could you please take a look at the photos below and let me know what you think?

Other opinions are welcome.

The Sonoma looks good. Sonomas are known for often having wonky stitching and creed stamps.

I believe that the city bag is fake. If I'm reading the city bag's creed correctly, I think I'm seeing an "E" plant code and if that's the case, it's fake. E is a code for a bag made in Italy and wouldn't have text showing as made in the US.

Not looking to authenticate/buy, just curious if it could be at all possible that this bag weighs 12 pounds!?!?! asked seller and they just stated 'that's what the listing says'.

btw, they're shipping it at 17#
The maximum shipping weight for that bag would be under 5 lbs. including stuffing and padding the box. There's no way it's close to 12 lbs. for the bag and 17 lbs. total shipping weight.

I agree, the Sonoma is fine. The bad stitching and stamping in Sonomas is mentioned in the Salearea Guides.

And BeenBurned is also right about the City Bag. The serial number has a fake plant code, the strap attachment leather tabs AND the hardware are all wrong (and NOT because of the gap in the D-ring - the shape itself looks "off" unless the shape is foreshortened in the photo), and more photos would probably show more problems. Don't waste any more time on it.

Thanks for my validating my thinking BB....I couldn't imagine ANY handbag being 12 pounds...who would carry that?! Then to say shipping materials were 5 pounds...they be cray cray

Shopgoodwill is notorious (in my experience) for overestimating shipping charges. Some locations do seem willing to work with you if you win the auction. They are inconsistent...some locations are responsive, and some seem to be out to lunch.

Thank you so much BeenBurned and Hyacinth!!! I just got home and logged on and was delighted to read your responses. I'm really glad that Sonoma Creeds have sloppy stitching! .I won't waste anymore time with the City Bag.The interesting thing is I bought them both from the same person and she didn't distinguish between them. Thank you for the link to the Salearea Guides - what a great resource.
