Hi,

Could someone please kindly authenticate this bag for me. Everything about it looks authentic but I noticed the plant code is "S" and the creed says "made in the United States".
I was reading a blog from Hyancinth that stated the following: (Please notice the bold text)

"The third or last digit was the plant code, which can be either a letter of the alphabet OR a number. With the expansion to Turkey, China and beyond, Coach ran out of letters and began using numbers. Since the original New York City plant was closed before the new codes began, there should never be any number with an “A” code. “B, C and D” stood for the US plants that took over from the NYC plant. And although it’s remotely possible that Coach may have used the same code for more than one plant (or maybe even tried to disguise the non-USA origins of some bags by using a “Made in the US” creed stamp but with the correct non-US code digit in the serial number - this is strictly speculation on my part), usually a contradiction between the plant code digit and the country actually named in the creed means the bag has a discrepancy that needs to be examined and authenticated. The actual plant codes weren’t made public but a few Coachies have figured them out pretty well. Plant codes were single digits until 2006 when Coach began updating all its plant codes to 2 numbers each."

Thanks for your help :-)

I'm sorry, it is fake. An authentic bag of this style doesn't have a center bottom seam. The S plant code was never used for the US, and was used for China at the time this bag was supposedly made. The font, the underline, and the spacing are all off for any creed made around that time period, and the year is probably too late for the style. I suspect the snap doesn't have the correct stamping but the picture isn't clear enough to tell.

ETA: We have since clarified some of the information that you quoted. For example, there are a few examples of a plant code being used for more than one plant, possibly at the same time, or it switched back and forth many times - the M plant code was used for both the US and Costa Rica. A few other codes were reused later for other plants.

Another discrepancy is that there are authentic bags with "A" plant codes. We suspect that the original factory location in NYC may have been kept open for training purposes, which is why we've seen quite a few bags with A plant codes in the 90s. Another theory is that they were really made at another plant but someone made a mistake with the creed stamp and set it to the wrong letter.

Hello- Would someone help authenticating this bag. I saw it on Tradsey and researched it on other sites. The hangtag looks very basic. There are a number of them being sold online. Some sites say they are 'Coach Factory' and have it listed for $71, where others have it listed as high as $314. The emblem on the front varies from the oval on this bag to the horse drawn carriage on others. **There are no serial numbers embossed on the creed from what I saw on other listings. I appreciate your help!

We can't authenticate a bag that doesn't have the required pictures. These look like stock photos, not photos of the actual bag. Notice that although the description says new with tags there aren't any tags visible in any of the pictures. See the first post of this thread to see what pictures we need. Coach has made several versions of this bag, with different style numbers, and there are minor differences in the medallion, placement of the straps, lining and hangtags. This particular version is made of crossgrain leather; earlier versions were made of saffiano, which is a bit sturdier. They were all made for factory. Note that since they were made for factory, they were never sold for the price on the price tag. Later versions have the style number on a tag hidden in the pocket, which we need to see in order to authenticate. Telling us the numbers isn't enough; we need to see the actual tag of the actual purse you are considering buying.

Hi! These bags were purchased by my daughter one before I even knew about this forum. Please authenticate. If you purchase a counterfeit item from Ebay, can you still return? The item obviously is not as described? Thanks for your expertise and assistance.

If you purchase a counterfeit on ebay, you can still open a case to get your money back, either through ebay or Paypal, or your credit card company as a last resort, as long as you don't wait too long. I don't see any problems with either of them. I would need to see a clearer picture of the entire creed of the second one to authenticate it.
