Dear Amazing Authenticators, could you please authenticate the following bag for me? The seller has listed it saying that Carol Diva authenticated the bag but I have read mixed reviews about Caroldiva on TPF so I thought it'd be safer to come to the Chanel pros to make sure.

Item: Auth Chanel Jumbo Caviar Double Flap Red- Caroldiva Authenticated
Serial Number: 16699194
Listing number: 121890884675
Seller: jsmi39780

This is a update Roku posted within the last week: post 9187, it includes a picture if you are unclear what she is asking for....

Update

This post just speaks for myself; I do not speak for other volunteer authenticators on TPF, whether on this Chanel thread or anywhere else.

For the longest time, many authenticators on the Authenticate This Chanel including myself did not authenticate closed auctions or private sales. There was sound reason for that, and other Authenticate This thread authenticators follow this practice.

Then recently, as an experiment I offered to open up the requests to private sales and ended listings, for a few reasons. As it has always been, the nature of my intent to volunteer authentication is to help potential buyers with a purchase decision prior to sale. But I realize sometimes the timing doesn’t always match.

Then the posts I felt started getting numerous with requests with photos and albums from all over the place, without links or listings and there is very little to go by. Sometimes, because I don’t authenticate for Craigslist, people would just copy/download the pictures and upload them here individually to get around that. Same thing with other sites I don’t authenticate for. Other times, I noticed requestors were just downloading and uploading images from the Ebay listing without sharing the link publicly, omitting information that could potentially be significant in providing coloring on the listing itself. I felt it was getting out of hand. And I had no idea where these pictures were coming from. At the same time, I wanted to still help those of you who bought a bag at an estate sale, consignment boutique, from a friend or relative, etc., and provide a way for you to do so. Personally, I feel comfortable finding a happy medium.

From hereon forward I will only authenticate private/individual photos with no listing link if the photos are taken by the requestor on TPF.

I will continue to authenticate both live and ended listings (with exceptions noted in my signature), and photos taken by the TPF requestor.

1) please always include the online link to the listing (whether active or ended, doesn’t matter). If the listing is lacking required photos, please procure those from the seller and attach them in the same request
2) if you already have the bag in your possession, I will authenticate those photos you have taken yourself as long as it meets the requirements in my signature link. To help assure me that you are the one taking the photos, please take one of the photos with the bag in front of the TPF screen with you already logged in, with your username clearly visible in the background in the black menu bar. Scrawling a username on post-its or using watermarks will not suffice - you must be logged into your account and your username showing in the background in the black menu bar. Here is an example:

I will skip any requests with no listing link just having uploaded images that are not taken by the requestor. Please also reference sites that I don’t authenticate for (Craigslist, etc) in my signature link.

Thanks for your understanding as I believe this will help create a safer trading environment too. With so many scammers and fakers, there is already enough working “against” the honest buyer trying to make a purchase online, despite the fact that there are many good, reputable and honest sellers out there also. Having as big a picture as possible (figuratively) is always helpful.

It is the preference of every volunteer authenticator on what they choose to authenticate or not authenticate; there may be another expert authenticator who can help you, or you can always consult a paid service. Those details are also in my signature link. I will also update that info sometime soon.

Many thanks
Roku
gail, when you have a chance, will you please take a look at post 9335 and let me know if I did anything wrong. I reviewed the update before posting since I had already purchased the bag, but I think I followed everything. Happy to continue waiting if there's just a lot of traffic, but wanted to make sure I posted correctly. Thanks so much.

I just wanted to thank you ladies for the wonderful work you are doing for all of us here. If it hadn't been for you, many of us would have bought a fake without ever noticing. Requiring a few things to help you do what you are doing is the least we can offer. I really wonder sometimes how you cope with the load of posts and pictures to examine. And all of this just for our own good.

I would like to thank you dearly one more time, all authenticators of tPF and tell you that you should feel proud for doing so for free.

Thanks for the kind words. Sometimes I feel like a big meanie on here, :blah: but am just trying to help get things authenticated correctly. It really helps when people submit correctly.

.

I know, I know. My only problem is when the seller is not communicating and more pictures are needed or clearer pictures. I wonder why sellers don't know by now which pictures are required for authentication. Most of us buy and sell and we know by now how it works. But what YOU are doing is a huge headache IMO. A enormous BRAVO and an sincere THANK YOU once more. :smooch:

Hi Jubes,

It appears you have done everything correctly; I don't know if Roku saw something that made her hesitate to authenticate. Let's see if she responds, it's possible she missed your post, as it was in between a few that needed to be redone.

The Real Real never posts enough detailed pics to determine authenticity. Please review the first two posts in this thread for form and content needed for authenticity requests. I don't know how much luck you will have getting more pics in a timely manner.

If you choose to buy the bag, you can have it authenticated post purchase by a private authenticator, or here by following Roku's directions when a bag is in your possession.
