I bought this guaranteed authentic McQueen cashmere and silk shawl on ebay, despite being uncertain about its authenticity. The seller was using stock photos from a retail site, and didn't respond to my request for more photos. But the seller has great ratings, is in the US, and accepted returns, so I placed a winning bid.

Even though I've read through this thread, and everything else I can find about authenticating McQueen scarves, I feel uneasy. The price was too low (around $100 for an item that runs closer to $1000 retail). I own a silk chiffon "Gold Angels" shawl, so I have compared the two carefully, and can find no discrepancy in the stitching, size, methods, placement of tag, actual label (other than content info). Comparison photos, as well as individual photos are linked to below.

I have three questions for those more knowledgeable:
1) Have shawls such as this been counterfeited?
2) Is this shawl authentic?
3) Do you know the name of this pattern? I would love to know the name! It looks kind of like a giant lotus radiating from the back of the shawl.

I uploaded photos to a picasa album, so they can be viewed larger (than tPF allows) for greater detail:

Thanks so much for your time and help! -- Carol

Carport - I don't have experience with shawls, but it seems this seller has sold a lot of AMQ scarves and shawls for very low prices. Don't know how she would be able to do that either. Curious to find out.

I hope it's real for your sake - it would be an incredible price you got it for!

azureartist - yes, the seller has sold a few (less than a dozen) McQueen scarves and shawls for very low prices. But they're not the usual knock-off skull scarves. I have a nagging feeling that perhaps they are moving stolen goods, which is creepy -- and I'm sure against ebay policy.
