I really agree with you on how French women are able to roll out of bed an look so well put together. I'm getting a personal shopper to help me put my wardrobe together and I told her on the phone that I am looking for French classic look. I hope she can help me with that.

I have read somewhere that French women spend a lot of time doing their makeup so that it looks flawless and effortless. They want to look like they are naturally like that, but in fact they wear a lot of makeup.

Any French tPF members to help us figure this out?

My mother is french, she's (still - 57) simply beautiful. Always. And I don't say that because she's my mom.

But I have seen a lot of french women in my life that look like hell when getting up. So I think it comes down to the fact if you're a person like my mom or not. But I think (living sometimes in France or in countries next to France) in France women care a lot about their looks and they don't do it with a lot of make up or stylish hair accessories or anything else. They just stay plain simple with everything, my mother once told me (I had my hair done in a complicated way AND I had red finger- and toenails) that I should stick to one highlight. Either the hair or the nails.

Btw: This kind of style doesn't come with birth. My hair is always a mess when I get up. Or maybe my Dad messed it up...

^^ thanks! she really likes Marc by MJ. I am hoping to find *one* of these eventually...especially the first one posted. I have been wanting it for a long time too....so cute!

French women seem to just jump out of bed put on a tee and some jeans and instant chic. I do that and I look like I've gone on a drinking binge. LOL

^That´s the key word LOL !!!!
I´m French but I live abroad so I´ve picked up on local women style, (because men here won´t look twice if you just do the subtle french style lol) eventhough everybody tell me I´m the epitome of French to them, anyways....

From what I have learned the words are : Subtle, contrast, pay attention to details, pick 1 thing.

Subtle....just showing ankles, or your neck bone is considered sexy.

Contrast : maybe the most important.....for the effortless chic. Wear old faded jeans with a designer jacket, or chic ballerinas.
Pair your designer bag with a vintage dress.
Mini skirt leg showing with oversize pull over.
If your make up is heavy, don´t even brush your hair.
Just think of 1 thing you want people to notice.

ah well most of the time it´s just shyness and not daring !
when women do it all "brushing, make up, mini skirt, high heels, cleavage" we say she´s "over the top" (not positive).

Well I'm french and I don't know if I am that elegant ... LOL try to do my best anyway ;-)

I'm just quoting Coco Chanel : «Si une femme est mal habillée, on remarque sa robe, mais si elle est impeccablement vêtue, c’est elle que l’on remarque.»

"If a lady isn't well dressed, everyone will notice her dress, but if she's elegant, it's the woman that everyone will look at" (i.e.,not the dress)

Sorry for the bad translation ;-)
