I ended up sleeping a little bit on Sunday night. I completely forgot to mention they did give me a painkiller shot on the Saturday which gave me a few hours of reprieve but Sunday really was excruciating. Tylenol (aka paracetamol) really did not do the trick.
Day 4
Monday. I arrived at the clinic and was taken back to the surgery ward where I changed into patient clothes. Then I went back into the surgery room and laid on the same bed my surgery was performed. In order to take the drains out they put a thick material over your head which has one hole in it. You lean to one side so you can’t see anything and they remove the drains. The first one was painful maybe a 7 out of 10 but mostly it was very uncomfortable. The second one hurt like hell 10 out of 10. Thankfully, It was over in about 10 minutes so not too bad but I did bleed. The weird thing is they did not cover up the places where I was bleeding. They put on a new compression around my face with additional elastic structures on my forehead and back of head. I then went to another ward to have an antibiotic shot. At this stage, I was bleeding quite badly from the places with the drains came from, I asked for some tissues so the nurse who gave me a the shot ended up positioning some gauze to stop the bleeding. I did ask the doctor why there was no cover on the drains before they were taken out and I didn’t really get a response on that, so I assume that it’s just the norm maybe to help with clotting. I finally was able to shower without touching my head of course. Total game changer. And even though I’m sleeping upright, I slept for a solid five hours.
Day 5
I woke up with some very bad bruising on the side of my head. I also realised that the pills I was prescribed, including the antibiotics, I only had enough for this day so I messaged my consultant all at around 10am with a picture of my head, and also with questions about the pills I have not received a message back and its the following day but I have not seen them online either. Today is also the first day I managed to go to the bathroom (embarrassing, but necessary information to disclose especially considering I’ve been taking a laxative three times a day). My face and neck are much more yellow. I went to the pharmacy and they gave me a vitamin K cream which I’m going to start to use twice a day. I’ve also attached a picture of the gauze that was positioned, where one of the drains was so you can see just how much I was bleeding. I finally opened my computer today and can think a little bit clearer, but I think that’s because of being able to sleep. Both eyes have haematomas and my left eye is very uncomfortable and oozing.
