I own and LOVE the 1955 Horsebit, but have had my eye on the Ophidia for years. I'm now ready to order one, but am wondering if its redundant since I have the 1955 Horsebit. The major differences I observe for myself is that the Ophidia feels more casual, and I'd be able to wear it crossbody since the strap is longer than the 1955 Horsebit. Other than that, they're about the same size and shape. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks!Screen Shot 2023-03-17 at 7.52.09 AM.pngScreen Shot 2023-03-17 at 7.52.34 AM.png

IMO redundant. Sometimes we plan to buy things that are no longer needed in our current lives

But if you love it, want a similar bag that is a crossbody, and will use it, then why not.
Exactly my thought. Personally, if I were going to get the second bag I would go for leather so there was not so much overlap with the first.

If it were me I probably would not purchase as I feel they are too similar. Unless you totally love them then I say why not? Many people have multiple monogram bags (especially lv).
The 1955 Horsebit is by only monogram bag. I'm not opposed to adding a second (but would probably draw the line there) as long as they serve a different purpose. I think that's the central question I need to figure out. They're very similar, but are the subtle differences in function enough to justify it?

This is such a good point. I've been eyeing this bag for years and have placed it in my cart more times than I can count. I was able to see it in person a few months ago, which confirmed my love for it, but I wasn't ready to purchase it for a few different reasons. Now that it's no longer available directly from Gucci, I feel like it's now or never before it disappears from the other retail sites too. So, maybe there's a bit of FOMO playing a role too.

Oh, I wish I could find it in leather. Sadly, I think this one was very limited in leather versions even when it was readily available through Gucci. I can't for the life of me figure out why this style didn't catch on like the other dome-shaped Ophidia bag.
If one can be crossbody and the other not then it's not redundant to me!
Hahahaha!!! Finally the voice of an enabler that I've been craving! This is kind of what I'm thinking. I find that I don't use the 1955 Horsebit in situations when I need to carry it longer than quick errands hopping in and out of the car, dinners out, etc. If I'm going to be walking around for a bit, I prefer more of a crossbody. So, perhaps this will fill that need.

Thank you all! All good points around...

I think we naturally gravitate towards items that already own because we love it so much in the first place! I would personally hold off as the one you own is so similar and therefore will not add much to your wardrobe collection. Perhaps a different shape or colour in a similar style?

I don't think it'll be redundant since both are in such a classic print. As someone pointed out different function can be enough.

I say that as someone who owns multiples though. If I love something, I really love it
I tend to own multiples of bags I love too. Very simply, I'm often drawn to similar designs because I know what I like and what I functionally need, so they're the bags I will use.

This one is about to disappear forever, and it's not a common one to pop up on the resale market. The more I think about it, the more I realize I will regret not getting it and end up hunting for it pre-loved in years to come.

Thanks!

I'm with you, I would get it too

I don’t think redundant but I had bought a preloved ophidia bag of what you have pictured and ended up returning it. I did not like the style. The flap snap closure bothered me and I had a hard time getting it to snap close.

Thank you for sharing this! Interestingly, I think I've had my eye on this bag for so long because it looks like a great substitute for the LV Pochette Metis--a bag I loved in every way, except for the lock closure, which drove me nuts! That closure (and the fact that nearly everyone I know has a PM) is ultimately why I sold mine. So, I completely understand how important the closure of a bag is. I already have other Gucci bags with this type of closure and am fine with it. But I do wish Gucci would start giving us an outside pocket on all these bags. It's the one feature I often find I miss...
