I had never had interest in diamonds until my best friend received some from her mother second hand. Then I started to wonder if the pearls and silver earrings I normally wear aren't enough. What do you think, does every woman need to have diamond earrings?

i think about it every now and again
but the ones i want are always the price of a bag and i would prefer the bag instead
i have a fear of losing them and i always end up getting a bag =)
i think its personal preference
i also have 8 holes in my ears and i maybe wear one pair on a good day hehe

Who says? You need to set your own requirements, be it diamonds, pearls, or that bag you always wanted! Don't let mass media/peer pressure take over your unique personality! Best of luck to you!

No jewellery is a 'requirement'. Many women own diamond earrings because they are classic and timeless - it lasts through your ages, as well as the ages. Not owning a pair doesn't mean you're missing something though.

I personally think I look better in silver studs rather than diamond studs - so I say, if you already look good in your silver and pearls, don't fret. Diamonds are just another avenue to explore ... you may like it, you may not!

Not for me.....all of my jewelry is real except my "diamond" studs. For some reason, I lose earrings a lot so I go with QVC diamonique 2 ct studs. I have compared them to my real 2ct ring and honestly, I cannot tell the difference.

I don't think diamonds are a requirement or a necessity for all women, but they certainly are a staple for me. I wear either my diamond studs or diamond hoops almost every day. Every once in a while I will reach for my pearl studs or gold hoops, but not nearly as often as the diamonds.

I'm 46 years old and I told my DH of 19 years to never buy me diamond earrings! I'm not an earring person. But after spending so much time on TPF, I gave it some more thought - LOL! And in the last week, I started thinking even more about them. However, it really is not my thing. I would probably check out those QVC ones cause I'm also afraid of losing them.

For me personally, diamond earrings are a staple. I feel they are so very versatile and you can were them dressed up (cocktail dress) and dressed down (jeans and a tee shirt), that I cannot be without mine. I love that little bit of sparkle :) However, if you are not an earring person or a diamond person there are certainly other options to add that special touch to any outfit and/ or occasion. You should choose what is right for you to add that extra bit of wow to any outfit. Have you ever tried on diamond earrings before? If you haven't, I think you should before you completely rule them out and say they are not for me. If you do decide to give them a try. You need to give them a good try for a couple of hours or a day (if possible) and then you will know if they are for you. Is there a friend that would let you borrow hers or a relative? And please keep in mind just because they are considered a basic/ staple item on some arbitrary list does not mean that they work for everyone, just like clothing trends. You should wear what makes you happy and gives you confidence because than it becomes a part of you. Silver, platinum and white gold have been the "in" thing for several years now, but I know they are not for me. I do not like the look and therefore would not feel happy or exude confidence if I wore them, I would just feel like I was walking around in some one else's shoes that were too big for me (I hope that makes sense). You have to be comfortable and create your own staples and even if they look great on friends and relatives, if you do not like the look, you will not be able to really pull it off and it will become a purchase that you regret purchasing sitting in your jewelry box and really who needs that! Again, JMHO ;)

I don't think every woman NEEDS to have them at all, but I suspect most women DO have them because they are the standard stone marketed at men to prove their love for their woman.

In my early days with my husband he used to spend hundreds on diamonds for me, but they were always in styles best suited to much older ladies, and so I never wore them! He was a tad miffed but how do you tell your partner you hate the extremely expensive gift he's just shelled out his hard earned wages on to prove his love for you?

Sixteen years later he thankfully now knows what I like. I'm not at all fussed about diamonds, but I do love semi-precious stones. :graucho:

I love diamond earrings, but I probably will not own studs. I would just be too worried about losing them. I prefer designs with smaller diamonds so if one falls out, it can replaced without much cost. Losing a stud would be insane (imo) to replace.
I have diamonique studs in a Tacori design from QVC.com They are very pretty and cost less than $60.
I do wear diamond studs in my 2nd piercings. They never come out and they are small. about .12 points each.

Here are some of my diamond earrings...

All the talk about what EVERY woman should own in terms of jewelry, shoes, clothing or bags is preposterous. Everyone has different preferences and lifestyles, so why would ANY item work for everyone? No, diamond studs are NOT for everyone; not everyone even likes them. I like mine a lot and wear them more often than I thought I would when I received them, but that's just because I am too lazy to change them a lot! But "staple" items are definitely not staples for everyone.

Oh yes I agree! I'm always annoyed when people say "every woman should at least have ..."
I mean, a plain white button up shirt just doesn't suit my style!

I like diamond studs, but I like pearl/golden/silver studs just as much.. Just depends on what suits you.
If you want to try how you feel wearing blingy studs, I'd buy a cheaper alternative first to see how you feel about it!
