Hello guys,

I've recently won a black croc Hermes wallet on eBay. It was a last-minute thing so had no chance to authenticate before buying. The seller is not 100% sure about it, since it was a gift, but has agreed to have me show it to you guys before we proceed with payment.

I'll give you as many deails as I can, but since the bidding has basically ended, I'll also give you a link to some photos I posted of it on my Photobucket account.

Please have a look and let me know - I don't want to buy a counterfit!

Seller: reikistatic

Now, like I said bidding has ended here, so here's a link to the pics at my Photobucket account: http://s487.photobucket.com/albums/rr240/kasume_1980/

Any comments would be most appreciated.

Regards,

Kasume.
No...absolutely fake.

Thanks to Markova and Perigord for your replies. I had a very bad gut feeling about it too when I saw how low the starting bid was, but decided to give it a shot with the hope that maybe it was just a case of someone being unable to prove authenticity with hard evidence like a receipt, etc.

I would like to have at least 1 or 2 more replies to my post today if possible, so I can have more evidence to retract my purchase contract with the seller. This will also be good for the seller, because then she probably won't post the item again and thus won't be accused of selling fakes on eBay.

So please, those of you who haven't looked at the wallet, take a moment to give your comments: http://s487.photobucket.com/albums/rr240/kasume_1980/

Much, much appreciated, Kasume.

I don't like to stick my neck out without seeing more pictures - the back of the tie, the lining - but based on these pictures only, I'm willing to believe that these are most likely ok.

Thanks so much! I emailed a guy named Chris who wrote this Ebay guide:

http://reviews.ebay.com/The-Hermes-Tie-Fake-Knock-Off-or-Authentic_W0QQugidZ10000000002989634

He said that he recognized both patterns and mentioned that they were older, probably from the 80's. Did the shape of the 80's ties change much from the ones being sold today? Are these still okay to wear or will my husband look like a goober? I liked the patterns but I don't want him to look silly. I had no idea they were that old.

Thanks again for your input! :okay:

I promise--you do not need more replies. The seller's feedback only shows records of sales of items in the $4-$20 range. I see no evidence of sales of Hermes items or of items even remotely like this. Most important--the wallet is a clear and obvious counterfeit.

Thank you, Perigord, for your second reply. You are right - now that I'm comparing it to other croc Hermes wallets available out there, this one does not look right at all.

I guess I was just 1) hoping to have really landed the deal of the century 2) delaying having to break the bad news to the seller...

I will now proceed to terminate my purchase contract.

The shape has not changed much.
An Hermès tie is a thing of such beauty, that it can never make the man wearing it look silly. I'll put that in writing. (Oops, I just did!)

Comments: At this price I'm thinking fake, but I didn't find any information on the seller in any searches on TPF, so maybe (ha!) I can get my HG wallet without breaking the bank.
No such luck. The seller had a number of H items for sale--belts, dogons, bearns--none of them good. Note--the seller only used the letter H in the title (possibly to get away from eBay scrutiny) but the objects were clearly counterfeits and the name Hermes was used in the descriptions. BIN belts for under $100...cheap wallets...seller based in a country known for counterfeits...

BTW, the site is also full of questionable Burberry and LV and Gucci lookalikes. A little Canal Street cart on eBay...

Thanks so much; I hope I'll one day know enough about Hermès to be as helpful in this forum as you are!
