I want one.. The only thing holding me back from buying it is that it isn't waterproof. I think I will wait for the next generation and see if they. Make a waterproof one... The current one is only water resistant

Vlad did hit on a good point about constant connectivity. I make a concerted effort to not turn my phone on til I get on my way to work, and it's off by about 930 every weeknight. Yes it would be nice to have alerts, but I don't need them that badly. I don't need to be connected to anything that badly. I have also had both my bag AND my phone stolen out of my purse before, so I am a lot more protective, especially of my phone, at this point, so it staying in my purse all the time is less favorable. I don't want it walking off.

Besides that, it's simply not a practical thing--besides my aforementioned commentary on it being ugly--its not being waterproof is a HUGE detriment, esp for that pricepoint. Technology changes SO FAST and it's going to be an obsolete technology in like 6 months, if I am going to spend that much on a device, itll be my phone.

Despite being fug, I know that 17K version is going to sell out immediately bec it's status...

Think about how many pieces of technology you currently own and use that 3+ years old. I am not talking about TVs or Bluray players, I am talking about laptops, tablets, phones. The tech moves so quickly and we're constantly primed to replace it with new, shiny stuff.

This is the first Apple product that's aiming to revolutionize the market that I am not itching to purchase. At all. :blah:

There was a rather interesting article in Bloomberg today about how the Apple watch is targeted mainly at men and active sporty women. At initial launch phases, they don't expect it to fly with women who own watches as fashion items (or purely to keep time). Rather they hope it will attract sporty women who wear eg fitbits or other arm exercise devices. That was why Christy Turlington was on stage to launch the product with Tim Cook. Over time they hope that men will end up influencing women into seeing this as a fashion statement.

Paying $17k for something visible that you're going to have to upgrade in 2-3 years is not something people just get away with these days, post financial crisis class-war populist uprising. Maybe if it was an heirloom you plan to pass down to your children, but not if it's disposable technology. You don't buy fast food in a golden box while people are hungry and homeless on the side of the street without those people complaining.

The cheaper version is hideous.

Excellent point. My TV in my bedroom is like 10 years old. lol It weighs a gazillion pounds.

Same, though I am not itching for that new Macbook either. I need a pro anyway to do my work and I have been WAITING FOREVER for the new ones, but now I am just going to wait again for Skylake.... But still, I saw that keynote and was like...eh, pass, on both. But when they come out with new phones I am like OHMYGODIMUSTHAVEITNOW, where my husband, who ironically works in telecom, doesn't want a phone ever. He has an iPhone4 and he wants it to die, and never wants to replace it again. I don't have any itch for an iPad though, my husband has one and likes it for games, but...eh. I either use my phone or use my mac. I feel like I don't need those intermediary devices.

I just preordered mine - the Stainless Steel 42mm Apple Watch with Milanese loop band. It's so crazy, ordering something like this without trying it on first but some people who preorder now might have to wait until June before their watches arrive.

For those who have decided to take the plunge and order a watch, I'm interested to know which ones you ended up choosing and why? Personally I chose the stainless steel because I liked how shiny it was compared to the aluminum Sport version. I've also be drawn to the Milanese loop from the very beginning because it reminded me of the Tiffany & Co Somerset mesh collection.

I don't use Apple products so that's a "No" for me. One of my colleagues has the Samsung version and it is large but pretty slick looking. Still not for me, though.

I do have the Ringly and im happy with it. I only use it when im traveling or at a conference or something when I need to know if my mother or her nurse is trying to contact me, and for that it works fine. It is bit clunky, but still pretty and I get a lot of complements on it. Not sure if they're still having problems with production, but I got mine about 6 mnths later than originally promised.

I have an iPhone, a Mac, and an iPad. But the watch is not for me. Prefer Patek and Rolex, in other words, watches, not computers, on my wrist.
I agree. I also have all three products and I love watches but this does not appeal to me in any way. I find it makes no sense spending money on something that essentially will just supplement my existing technology. It satisfies neither my fashion nor my technology needs. And these items are constantly being updated. It's a hassle with my Mac etc, I don't need it with my watch as well. I also suspect it will, in my case, quickly become something I have but don't use.

I'm excited to use mine for when I go out running, so the exercise/fitness tracker is a big draw for me. I also like being able to see the notifications on the watch as I'm notorious for ignoring my phone or forgetting to turn the ringer on, so I often miss calls or texts.

Will it replace my gorgeous "normal" watch? Nope, and it definitely will be outdated in a year or so, but that's typical of tech (and why I bought the cheapest/most basic model).
