Nope, not a fan of something that does less than my phone for about the same price. If the watch didn't have to be paired with a phone then it would be an altogether different story.

Yes, I agree that it is lame needing the phone along with it. I haven't been following how the fashion industry is adapting. I read about a "changeable" bangle bracelet, but haven't seen much else coming. I wonder what will be coming out by the holidays.

I so far think the smartwatch category is...hideous. Sure the possibility of what they can do is somewhat appealing (if not a battery destroyer), but they look idiotic. I can't see myself spending money on something like that which won't last as long as a real watch, that isn't attractive enough for my tastes.

When it was first announced, I thought the thing was hideous and would never buy one. I still don't like the fact that you have to rely on your iPhone to use it most of the time, but now that I read more and hear more about it, it's intriguing me a bit more.

I still think they could have done a better job with designs and straps...and this is coming from a HUGE Apple fan....but I will be watching the keynote today to see even more. Maybe once I see it in person I might be more interested..just not going to jump on it right away.

The main purpose I can see it for is when I have to keep my phone in my handbag, it would be nice not to have to take it out all the time or carry it in my hand.

I may be in the minority here.....I actually think I am going to purchase one and plan on wearing it with my everyday nice jewelry. Although I agree it's not the most appealing watch...but I compare it to other sport watches, so I think it fits in with that category. Here are the reasons I want it:

1.I hate my iPhone 6 because of the size....it's too big for my small hands, I am looking forward to just leaving my phone in my bag.
2. I am a interior decorator and it's really hard for me to carry my phone all around people's homes with me when I am doing an install...like when I'm carrying furniture, pics etc
3. I have 4 children (2 that have serious diseases) so I need to be able to get messages or phone calls immediately from them. So I can leave my phone in my work bag and just wear the watch. Although I need to find out what the distance is that I can be away from my phone.
4. I also am active and love to work out, so I'm looking forward to the fitness stuff....and get rid of my sport watches.

It will be interesting to see how people take to the watch....I guess your going to hate it or love it. I have not seen it in person, so I may change my mind.

I'm leaning toward the samsung watch that doesn't require the phone to be nearby. But I don't need it yet. I'll wait and see what is out when I need it. I'll probably need it for text and phone (with bluetooth headset) mostly.

I think the samsung screen curves around the wrist more than apple and may be longer.

Really good points there, I love my iphone 6 plus but I am always almost dropping it as it is hard to hang onto.

My friends keep asking me whether I will get an Apple Watch, as they know that I like watches and collect them.

Absolutely not. I feel like I am too "plugged in" already with my immensely powerful smartphone on me at all times, I don't need more connectivity on my wrist. Sometimes it's good to disconnect, not let notifications, alerts, measurements, appointments, calendars, email, apps, etc. get in the way of real life.

The gold version is absolutely atrocious and I don't see anyone getting the $10k/17k watch but extremely affluent people with too much disposable income to spend.

If I remember correctly, they are limited edition, so I wouldn't be surprised if they sell out. As you mentioned probably to the crowd that shares a 30,000$ bottle of wine over lunch.
